BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) — Three adults were killed early Monday at an in-home day care in a suburb northwest of Minneapolis, and a nearby college was locked down as police searched for a suspect who fled on a bicycle.

Police released few details about the deaths in Brooklyn Park early Monday. Inspector Todd Milburn said no one else was injured, but wouldn't say whether any children were present during the attack about 6:30 a.m.

Neighbors said police told them to stay home because the suspect was still on the loose. No arrests were made by midday Monday.

Hakeem Hughes, 18, said he heard screaming coming from the direction of the house around 6:30 a.m., but didn't pay much attention because children often played outside the home. When he went to catch his bus to school, he said police told him to go back inside because a gunman was on the loose.

"I'm just shocked about it," Hughes said. "They are good people. They are innocent people."

Happening at a Day Care center makes me wonder if it isn't related to a DV situation.

6:30 am means that some parents might be arriving with their kids.

Police search for suspect in Brooklyn Park triple homicide - UPDATE

http://www.mnsun.com/articles/2012/04/10/top_news/19bp12shooting.txt

According to Inspector Todd Milburn of the Brooklyn Park Police Department, a woman left her toddler at the daycare shortly before 6:30 a.m. and had contact with people in the house. While leaving, she saw the suspect near the house acting suspiciously and called to warn the daycare provider.

While the mother was talking on the phone to someone in the daycare, the call was disconnected. The mother returned to the daycare and saw the suspect fleeing the scene on a BMX bike. She discovered three victims fatally shot inside the house, but her toddler was unharmed. She took her toddler and called 911 at about 6:30 a.m. There were no other children in the home.

Milburn said the time between the when mother dropped off her toddler and when she returned to the scene was only a few minutes.

The suspect was an African-American man in his mid-20s wearing blue jean and a navy blue sweatshirt with a gray hood and two white stripes down the back, Milburn said.

Milburn also said the suspect could be armed but did not believe there was immediate danger to the public.

That sounds like it may be somebody known to the victims....

Police Chief Michael Davis said the department is still looking for information, and a $10,000 reward was set for information leading to the arrest of the responsible party.

"We have dedicated a considerable amount of resources," Davis said, adding that the department will to continue working until it solves the case.

This was the first homicide in Brooklyn Park this year. Last year the city had five deaths due to homicide. Four of those deaths were domestic-related.

Anyone with information should call Brooklyn Park Police at 763-493-8222.

Brother: Minn. day care operator, parents killed

........James Bolden said Tuesday that police told him his 59-year-old sister, DeLois Brown, and his parents James and Clover Bolden were killed in the attack Monday morning in Brooklyn Park, a suburb northwest of Minneapolis...................

The elder James Bolden was 83, and Clover Bolden was 81.

DeLois Brown's husband, Joseph, died in February, according to her brother-in-law. DeLois had just moved her parents to Minnesota from Centreville, Ill., near St. Louis, so she could take care of them, Ron Brown said.

"She called us a week ago today, to say they made it back safe and sound with a truckload of furniture," he said.

Aren't daycare providers mandatory reporters? Could someone have lost custody of their child?

That's odd. At 59, 81 and 83 the suspect in his 20's was too young to be a spouse or even a child of the victims. It seems to have happened too quickly to have been a robbery. And why would someone break into the home anyway, as they would have to be known that the home was occupied and someone was up, since the mother of the toddler was there.

What happened to DeLois Brown's husband?

Yes, they are mandatory reporters...that's a good suggestion also.

I'm thinking somehow the suspect was known to the victims...strange that this happens so soon after Ms. Brown brought her parents to live with her. She was very active in the child care field also, from above link:

Brown's LinkedIn profile listed her as follow-up coordinator for Pink Purse Project Inc., a women's and girls' empowerment organization. She worked for nearly nine years in the nearby Osseo Area Schools system as a child care instructor and later child care site supervisor.

Could she have 'empowered' a woman to leave/divorce this man?

About her husband, so far it just says he died, no reason given.
