Seems rather strange, it's my understanding that these communications faculties are well guarded where one has to present ID and be escorted. Several articles have stated that in addition to the "secured entry access" (as they termed it) they also have security cameras covering the facility.

I thinking it must have been a workplace dispute since it would be quite difficult for a non-servicemember to gain access and then escape after the shooting.

Some of the articles have said they haven't ruled out a murder suicide or even a double suicide. But they didn't rule out a separate shooter either (and they did lock down the base and a nearby school.)

I think there will be difficulty getting info on this one though, I don't know if we will ever be able to find out what happened. The statements on this really said almost nothing and the FBI is going there too, you get almost nothing when the FBI investigates.

Law officers assured residents of Alaska's Kodiak Island that they aren't in immediate danger following the shooting deaths of two workers at a Coast Guard communications station, but the fact that no one had been arrested left people on edge.

snip...FBI agents flew to Kodiak Island from Anchorage, about 250 miles away, and were treating the case as a double homicide.

FBI seeks clues to slayings at Alaska Coast Guard base

Coast Guard Base Kodiak is home to 1,000 active-duty personnel and hundreds of civilian employees and is the largest installation in the Coast Guard system, according to the Kodiak Island Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The base is the operations hub for enforcement patrols and search-and-rescue missions in much of the North Pacific and in the Bering Sea, and conducts missions as far north as the Arctic Ocean

Awfully strange case. They are being very tight lipped about it.

Im starting to wonder if there is more to the story :what:

I am surprized there is'nt more coverage of this case. It always seems more dangerous when something happens on a base. Trained professionals, weapons & security.
Imo the only way LE could tell the public that there is no immeadiate danger, is a murder/suicide. Otherwise the people up there would have to worry about which one of their co-workers is capable of killing two people.imo

If it was a co-worker don't you think he/she would be in custody by now? Surely they had cameras and they would have needed a keycard/password to gain access. The FBI has not released a single thing about this case since the shooting took place, only to give the usual "the public is not in immediate danger" line.

How does someone infiltrate a secure facility, kill a Coastie and a USCG civilian employee, escape without being stopped an completely vanish?

It is so strange that this story isn't getting more national coverage, or even local coverage. Here in Kodiak we certainly hear more than is covered on the news but still no arrest... These things don't happen very often here and especially on base. I would be interested for some experienced sleuths to take a look at the evidence so far. I'm not really sure what i am allowed to say on this site, I don't want to break any rules. The FBI sure does not report much.

Rubys if you are local, check with a mod. They can verify that you are local and let you know what you can say. I believe you can say what you are hearing (after you are verified) as long as you make it clear that it is local rumor. I for one would be interested in what you have heard.

What evidence do you want looked at? Please link to a media site.

If you know of some evidence that has not been reported, maybe law enforcement doesn't want it released?

Please contact a moderator privately if you have some inside information so we can help direct you. If the information you have is about living in the area, you don't need to be verified.

One month since the shootings and the FBI has said next to nothing. Nothing on a suspect(s). No news on what led to the shooting. Nothing.

Very strange.

I am so glad this case is finally on trial. It was the most violent to happen in kodiak for a very long time. I just thought I would bump it since it is currently in the news.

Kodiak is a nice place to be stationed if you like Alaska. This crime shook up the community a lot. The suspect was obviously being watched closely by the FBI for a year before he was arrested. It was unnerving to run into him around town! I can only imagine how difficult it was for one of the victims family members who are neighbors with the perpetrator. I hope they get justice!
