BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - The three teens charged with first-degree burglary in an alleged break-in at a fishing camp on Gravine Island had a bond hearing today from the Foley jail.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Scott Byrd, Daniel Parnell and Dillon Tyree, all 17. They will be charged as adults with felony burglary.

This story has been unfolding from where I live...The feelings of the teens friends, in understand their anger BUT they obviously don't understand that the ones involved were in the middle of a criminal act when the girl was shot.

Another good article with a photo of Summer Moody.

From the article- "Moody was shot after two men at the scene each fired a shot from small-caliber rifles after they heard the group. The girl was the only person hit by a bullet, according to Mack. "

This bugs me, who fires off into the woods "after hearing" someone? That is just odd and for both of them to do it, what in the world were they thinking?

This article has a quote from the deputy-

"Deputy Chief Charlie Jones tells News 5 three men from Mobile County witnessed Moody and three boys burglarize a building then chased them across the island."

So at 4 am the 3 men witnessed them burglarize a camp that did not belong to the 3 men and they chased them across the island and shot at them? Wow, all I can say is wow... I am all for protecting my own property rights and reporting suspected burglars to the authorities, but this appears to be getting outrageous..

In other articles I've read , the teens had weapons but no word on weather they used them or not.

BAY MINETTE, Alabama -- The owner of one of the fish camps allegedly burglarized on Gravine Island before Summer Moody was shot describes damage to his property and says he saw a knife and gun when he arrived early Sunday, according to a story posted by WKRG.

Charges were upgraded for the three teenage boys Tuesday. Sheriff Huey "Hoss" Mack says they found a rifle along with other items in the teen's boat. Authorities also say the group had another weapon on them during the burglary.

Now, there is 'rumor' on the facebook pages of the news stations that they boys had actually used the gun found in the boat and shot back at the men, but as I said...rumor.

Duh! I was thinking that Summer was shot while these thugs were robbing, as in, she happened to be in or near the place that was being robbed.

Now I understand that she was actually WITH these guys, at 4 am

How stupid of these guys to shoot blindly into the woods! Really?

I hope she recovers.

BAY MINETTE, Alabama --
Three teenagers involved in a burglary and shooting onGravine Islandwill face more felony charges in an unrelated case, according to the Baldwin County District Attorney’s office.

An assistant district attorney told WKRG he could not reveal the nature of the charges
but called the teens “violent and a danger to society.”

Wont these be public record? Odd I have never heard that stated before by a an ADA.

Yes apparently this girl was part of the group and caught in the act of committing a crime possibly (though the authorities wont say if she was involved or not).. However I also think the adults committed a crime by taking the law into their own hands. It was not their camp that was robbed, they did not even own land on the island. They were just fisherman.. (all of this is in articles linked above) so unless the teens shot at them first, then I do not understand firing a gun at them..

One of the men is the caretaker of the property according to news articles. The other did have permission to be there as he was guest.

Which article? I must have missed that part.. and I thought I read them all.

There are many, this is one of them about the guests and owners being on the island that night....
http://www.fox10tv.com/dpp/news/local_news/baldwin_county/gravine-island-who-did-the-shooting

"I represent Wayne Hearn. And he and two other individuals were there with their wives, and they have ownership interest in the camp houses. I think there are four or five camp houses right there together. They're all friends. They all have keys to the camp houses, and they kind of look out for each other," Dasinger said.

Dasinger said the group of adults had been on the island all weekend. He described what they did when they heard something suspicious around 4 a.m.

One that talks about the caretaker....

Two men staying at a camp on the back side of the island heard a door being broken. One of the men, according to Mack, was a caretaker of the property, knew of several recent break-ins and went to investigate.

IMO there are no power tools that are worth shooting someone but that's just me.

I agree power tools are not worth a life.

But, people need to understand that you may be injured during a crime you are committing.

I've read all the links & most of the comments & it's my opinion that the kids may have begun the evening "frogging", but were clearly vandalizing the camphouse when the couples in the other cabin awakened.

Firing into the ground would surely have been effective in scaring them away. The adult who shot in that direction was extremely wreckless. The shooter probably did not intend to hit one of the prowlers, but I think that ownership of guns & carries responsibilities for use & misuse.

If the kids had been kicking in the door of the occupied cabin & one was shot, it would have a been justified. It seems to me this is a case of 2 wrongs. Everybody loses. Tragic. I am undecided on what charges & punishments should be applied to the shooter. I hope the young girl recovers..... This is a textbook example of a bad situation all around.

So this is the most HINKY $h!t I've ever read, so they fired "WARNING SHOTS" but they didn't fire them into the air? So. Yeah. Those weren't warning shots. Who fires a "warning shot" knowing that it COULD hit a person. Nobody. And if they were not trying to hit someone because they were SO SICK AND TIRED OF THE VANDALISM, then they are IGNORANT and should have never been allowed guns because they handled them in the most irresponsible way, and most likely killed a girl.

Nope. Either those men were not "warning" anyone of anything but their impending death, or they are absolute IDIOTS and ignorance is not cause or excuse to take a life.
