Recently, I noticed this little girl who was found in Fontana, CA (San Bernardino County, California) on February 1, 1973.

When I saw the listing, I thought of Michelle Pulsifer who went missing from Huntington Beach, CA in 1969.

I submitted Michelle as a possible match. I received an e-mail from Bob Hunter of the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner --
Kathryn,

Thank you for the information on the possible comparison. I am the unidentified persons coordinator with the department. mtDNA was obtained from our unidentified person and should be checked against the NCIC database. It does not appear Michelle Pulsifer had any dental records or x-rays on file for comparison.

She currently has two exclusions --
Ricky Bryant who is missing from Wisconsin
Irma Rivers-Carlisle who is missing from California

Irma Rivers-Carlisle was added recently as an exclusion (I believe on May 29, 2012). I still haven't heard back about her being Michelle Pulsifer. Mary Lozano, a four year old little girl who went missing from Venice, CA on February 13, 1969, could also be a possibility. https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/12844/138/

Michelle Pulsifer and Judy Rivera have been ruled out as being the little girl in Fontana, bringing the number of rule outs to four.

has Mary Lazano been submitted?

I did some sleuthing and thought maybe Patricia Zentner: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/9909/1

The child was 2 at the time of her disappearance in 1964.

There are property records dating back to the 80s in san bernardino county that have the mothers name, this is about 20 to 30 minutes from where the body was found. The body was found in what is now Riverside County and those property records are paid to search.

The mothers case: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/9908/0

Let me know what you guys think.

That's interesting. I didn't realize that the mom owned property out there. Are there any indications that she ever came out to the area?

This makes me sad.
No child this young should be in a shallow grave. I hope her name will be found.

has Mary Lazano been submitted?

This is the e-mail I received from Bob Hunter from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office about Mary Lozano --

Thanks you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, Mary Elizabeth Lozano does not have any forensic identification information available that we can match against. Our unidentified Baby Doe does have DNA and dental on file and is routinely search for matches through the National Crime Information Network (NCIC).

Thanks again….

None that I have seen. I basically searched all the missing persons cases and cross checked the names in California and in the area where the body was found and found the mothers name on property records.

NAMUS says there was Child's Rosary with "gold colored" crucifix found with this little girl. Does LE have or can someone get a picture of it to show.Maybe someone will recognize this Child's Rosary.

I agree no child this young should be in a shallow grave. It makes me very sad too.

I found this. Namus says Judy Rivera was ruled out.Was this by DNA? This was interesting.

San Bernardino County, CA
Rivera & Walpole
Jan 16, 1965
In 1965 Antonio Rivera and his wife, Merla, were unable to support their seriously ill 3-year-old daughter, Judy Rivera, and abandoned her at a distant San Francisco gas station in the hope that she would receive better care. The San Francisco Chronicle reported the finding of the little girl the next day. In the years following, the couple divorced, and Merla remarried, becoming Mrs. Walpole. In 1973, the body of a little girl was found near Fontana, about ten miles from where the couple had lived. Authorities concluded the found body was Judy Rivera and that her parents must have murdered her. When Rivera and Walpole were brought to trial, the jury did not believe their story and both were convicted of murder. Before sentencing, the judge set aside the verdict and directed the prosecution to investigate the parents' claim. An investigator located the girl mentioned in the newspaper story and after tests were performed, authorities were satisfied that the girl was in all likelihood Judy Rivera. I never forgot about this little girl. Is this little one still unidentified? Does anyone know more on her case? Are there any newspaper articles on her?

Does she have a grave stone? What does it say on it?

Unfortunately, I think she is still unidentified.

I searched the newspaper archives available at the Long Beach Public Library's website http://www.lbpl.org/databases/default.asp and, so far, I have only found one article about this little girl. It was published the day after she was found on February 2, 1973 in the Redlands Daily Facts. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide very much information --

I will keep looking to see if there are more. There are a few UIDs, like Bell Boy, who I haven't been able to find any articles about even though I have wasted a lot of time looking.

I don't know if San Bernardino County buries or cremates their unidentified dead. Hopefully, if someone knows they will share the information with us.

I just noticed that Mary Lozano's NamUs page https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/12844/52 says that samples of her DNA has been submitted and tests are complete (when I suggested her to Detective Hunter back in October 2012, her DNA was not available). I wonder if this means that she isn't a match, since I am assuming that both are in the system now?

Where was the child's rosary with the golden cross found? On her? I wish they would put the description of her clothing out and a picture of the rosary. It's been a very long time now.I do think if they did that it would help to find out who she is. Someone might still remember these items found with her.
