BREAKING STORY
This afternoon a 30 year old woman, an employee at Wal-Mart in Rapid City, SD, has been stabbed; she has passed from her injuries. The man who stabbed her barricaded himself in a local motel and stabbed himself, he is in the ER.

It appears to be a domestic violence incidence. When will people learn to MOVE ON; when it is over it is over. NO means just that NO, whether it is sex, a relationship or a marriage.

No ID on victim yet.

The victim had worked at Walmart for seven years, according to corporate Walmart spokesperson Ashley Hardie.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 3:18 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

A Rapid City police officer arrived almost immediately, according to Capt. Karl Jegeris.

The male suspect was still at the scene holding a knife.

Law enforcement officers pursued him into the Days Inn at 1570 N. Lacrosse St. where he barricaded himself in a public restroom.

There are places, not MSM, who have named this woman; LE has not released her name so I won't here.

An Order of Protection is just a piece of paper. :(

Morgan Myers was five weeks pregnant when she died Thursday after being stabbed in the parking lot of the Rapid City Walmart, according to an autopsy performed Friday morning

Myers and Young were both employees of Walmart, but Young was fired earlier this month, according to police.

Myers was granted a permanent protection order against Young on April 20, following a romantic involvement.

Rest in Peace Morgan :(

Thank you mods for changing the title of this thread.

Morgan was the mother of 4 children and she was pregnant when she was murdered. She had an order of protection but it didn't save her life, her abuser stabbed her to death in the parking lot at her place of work. He had been fired from the same place a few weeks prior to this incident.

Prayers offered for her family and friends.

This kind of murder is so difficult. She tried to leave. She got a protection order. Even if she had gone to a shelter or moved, he still knew how to find her and how to get to her. And no matter what she did, he was determined to get to her.

We shop at this store; it is a very busy area with a lot of traffic in the middle of the afternoon. He stalked her. :(

Friends mourn ‘amazing mother and an amazing person’

Myers, a 1999 graduate of Douglas High School, had been a member of the 1996 Douglas High School cheerleading squad that won the Spirit of Six award at the State “A” boys’ basketball tournament, when Douglas won the state title.

On a website for the Douglas Class of ’99 10-year reunion, Myers recalled both victories as favorite high school memories in a posting there. She also told former classmates what her priorities were 10 years later.

“I work only a few days a week so I can be with my children as much as possible,” Myers said in that same posting. “Basically since I’ve had children, that has been my priority. They are my everything.”

Victim feared for her life

According to Brenner, a temporary protection order was issued against Young on April 10; Myers was granted a permanent protection order April 20.

Myers had sought the protection order for herself and her children, none of whom were fathered by Young, Graves said.

Young had a history of conflicts with another victim, including an earlier protection order violation, and a couple other charges, “but no domestic violence charge,” Brenner said.

Most of the time, protection orders are successful in discouraging contact, Brenner said.

“Unfortunately, protection orders don’t act as force fields,” Brenner said. “They don’t give 24-hour protection over an individual.”

I hope they do go for the death penalty, two lives were taken, the mother and the baby.

So scary. You can do everything you're "supposed" to do in a DV situation, and still end up dead. :furious:

Poor Morgan and her family. Peace to all :rose:

LE is being smart here; they haven't arrested him yet but they have a guard on his room. As soon as the doctor signs the discharge papers, he gets arrested and taxpayers don't have to pay his hospital bill.

When Young is able be released from the hospital, he will be arrested and transferred to Pennington County Jail. Until then, Young remains responsible for the cost of his medical treatment.

Davis and Myers' two sisters helped author and post an online petition they hope will sway state legislators to pass "Morgan's Law."

The petition, signed by more than 700 people, calls for certain information to be provided upon an individual filling for protective orders, including any previous protection orders filed against the individual, previously violated protection orders, and previous convictions for domestic violence, rape, assault, robbery and other major offenses.

The proposal would also have the court determine cases where an electronic monitoring device should be assigned to the person for whom the order is against.

I would go even further than these ladies are requesting and add that information is given to the abused when the abuser is released from jail or is incarcerated. The eectronic monitoring device is a great idea but there also must be better information exchange between LE and the abused.

In South Dakota there were several times when my abuser/stalker would stand just outside the 50 ft restriction area and LE could do nothing. I woke at 3am one morning to find my back door open and him standing on the lawn outside my bedroom window. Several other times I found doors, that I had locked before going to sleep, unlocked and open. I also found window and storm door screens cut. Every time that I would try to find out if my abuser/stalker was in jail or out, I was stonewalled. This man stalked me through 3 states until as recently as a year and a half ago and still, every time I tried to find out if he was in jail or out, I was not given that information. It took purchasing a gun to give me a small measure of peace of mind but still there are times when I am concerned.
