Woman saves child from sacrifice in cemetery
---
The incident began while Jaymisha Pires and Corey Granberry, both 21, were visiting the cemetery to visit the grave of Granberry's godson. Pires confronted Ramirez, begging him to release the boy.

"My motherly instincts kicked in when I saw him hurting that little boy," said Pires, who has children aged 6 and 2. "It was a blur. I just wanted him to stop."

Pires said Ramirez kept saying, "We're going to Jesus, we're going to Jesus." But Ramirez finally shoved the boy aside and ran. Granberry grabbed the boy and the two other Ramirez children.
---
And what led to this incident?
Ramirez reportedly had been hearing the voice of his dead grandmother in his head.
---
Did they catch the guy?
Ramirez was tackled by Dana Fontenot, a 60-year-old security guard from Able Patrol and Guard who was on his third day of working at Mount Hope.

Fontenot shrugged and said, "It's all in a day's work."

Two women save boy from father who was trying to CUT OFF HIS ARMS in ritual sacrifice
Two women saved an eight-year-old boy from being killed by his father who was attempting to cut off his arms as part of a human sacrifice in a cemetery.

Jaymisha Pires and Corey Granberry grabbed the badly injured boy after his forearms had been slashed open.
---
As well as slashing his son's arms Ramirez also slashed his own arms.

Ritual sacrifice, my butt. It was a murder-suicide attempt by somebody who sounds mentally ill. I don't know why the tabloids have to dramatize these things, the stories are awful enough without the screaming, melodramatic headlines.

Police say Ramirez said he heard the voice of his dead grandmother telling him to sacrifice the boy, then took a piece of glass from a broken candle and slashed both of the boy's forearms.
---
The two then called 911. Granberry walked the two small girls to a safe distance while Pires pleaded with Ramirez to release the boy
---
Granberry added, "He said, 'I want to sacrifice him. He needs to go with grandma or mom' or something."

Yes, "cuts on the forearms" < attempting to chop child's arms off, agreed. Especially when done with a piece of glass.

Heinous moments though. The two young women saved the day.

Those two women deserve a medal, there's no doubt in my mind that they saved that child's life. And I know nobody will care too much about the man, but if he's mentally ill and was about to kill himself and his child "to be with Jesus", then they saved his life too.

Let's hope justice is done, whether that be prison, (if he's sane), or a secure psychiatric hospital, (if he's insane).

 :congrats:

Thank you Jaymisha Pires and Corey Granberry ... two brave 21-yr old young women ... for saving the life of an 8-yr old little boy and rescuing two other children. The action that the two of you took was an incredible act of bravery ... especially, not knowing if others would come to aid you in the incident.

Not to be overlooked, is the brave action of 60-yr old Dana Fortenot, security guard, who had only been on the job for three days.

April 2013 - pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

Police say Joseph Ramirez, 32, took his three young children and their mother to a San Diego cemetery last April for the terrifying ritual after the claimed urging of his dead grandmother.

The mother of Ramirez' children, Ariana Paredes, testified that he started acting strange after being baptized at a Christian church...

Paredes, whose children were 18 months, 3 years and 8 at the time of the attack, later testified that he made them all drink sangria and then eat energy bars which he called 'The Last Supper,' NBC San Diego reports.

From this point, it will be up to a judge to decide if Ramirez was insane at the time of the attempted cemetery sacrifice.
If he’s found sane, Ramirez faces 13 years in prison, officials confirmed. If the judge determines Ramirez was insane at the time of the crime, he will be sent to a state mental hospital.
A sanity trial has been scheduled for April 25. Until then, Ramirez is being held at San Diego Central Jail, where his bail has been set at $2 million.

More background:

Paredes said Ramirez met with a Catholic priest, who said "he's got something inside of him" and referred him to a mental health specialist.

Two days before the cemetery incident, Ramirez told Paredes that he was "very scared" and "something evil was out to get him," she testified.

The next day, Paredes said the family stayed at a friend's home because Ramirez thought a woman who visited his residence was evil. That night, Ramirez stayed up all night reading the Bible, Paredes said.

"He said, 'People are going to think I'm crazy,'" she testified.

April 26th, 2013:

A man who tried to sacrifice his 8-year-old son in a cemetery last year was determined on Thursday to be not guilty by reason of insanity, meaning he will likely be sent to a state hospital rather than prison.

Joseph Adalberto Ramirez, 32, admitted to a charge of attempted murder last month as well as an allegation that he caused great bodily injury to the boy. But because Ramirez had previously entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, a trial was set to determine whether he was legally sane at the time he committed the offense.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Leo Valentine Jr. determined during the brief bench trial that Ramirez was not sane when he slashed the young boy’s forearms at Mount Hope Cemetery in southeastern San Diego.

The judge reviewed reports from three medical experts, all of whom concluded that Ramirez, who had been a stay-at-home dad, suffered a psychotic episode as a result of “some mental disease, defect or disorder.” Because of that, he was unable to differentiate between right and wrong at the time of the slashing.

Courtney Cutter, a deputy public defender who represented Ramirez, said her client had by all accounts been a loving and devoted father before this, his first psychotic break, which occurred a few days before the incident.
