GUILTY MA - Melba Trahant, 83, & Donna Breau, 54, murdered, Lynn, 30 April 2012

A Lynn man apprehended Tuesday night as he tried to cross the Canadian border allegedly admitted to Canadian customs authorities that he had slit the throats of his mother and grandmother and then dumped their bodies at a Saugus elementary school earlier in the day.

Peter Bourgeois, who lives on the third floor of the Sheridan Street home, said today he was shocked to learn that Wright is accused of murdering the two women.

“It’s unbelievable,” Bourgeois said. “I knew he had problems, anger issues, but I never thought he would do something like this.”

Bourgeois recalled an incident two years ago when Wright wanted to learn how to play guitar. His mother bought him a knockoff of an electric Fender guitar. But one night, when his grandmother complained of him playing it too late “he went outside and smashed it. He had a temper tantrum,’’ Bourgeois said

Wright has a lengthy court record, with six cases on his record in Lowell District Court — from assault to shoplifting and destruction of property. The assault case was for becoming “irate” after his dad asked him to help with the dishes in 2007, records state.

“What my son did was evil,” said the dad, also named Joseph Wright.

Joseph Wright III, 25, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder with extreme atrocity or cruelty in the April 30, 2012 deaths of Donna Breau, 54, and Melba Trahant, 83...

Wright had admitted to killing both women at the family’s home at 94 Sheridan St. in Lynn. The defendant testified Friday that he first killed Breau by slashing her throat with a kitchen knife then went downstairs and killed his grandmother the same way, afraid she noticed his blood-covered clothing and was calling police.
