Colleen was abducted and held for 7 years before being able to return.
Is this the longest period of time of abduction of someone that has been recovered?

Another well-known case is Steven Stayner. He was kidnapped at age seven and held for 7 years and 3 months before he escaped. That is a very tragic story.

I wish the book "The Pefect Victim" could be banned. It tells to much to people that shouldn't have it.

i saw her (Coleen) story on American Justice, I belive, very bizzare. I am not familiar with that book. People can get ideas from just about any movie or book if they are demented enough.

A very valid and realistic view of which I share. I am glad the Sponge Bob crimes have not increased. <G>

With an idealistic slant, our culture/society maybe blamed for some of those that are demented. With people incouraged in some ways to pursue their inner fantasy lives. With bondage supplies available for xmass giving available at the local Spencer Gifts. I question what maybe the next step is when they are desensitized and need something greater. Sometimes I feel that society has its own form of Stockholm Syndrome, with a desensitizing drawing the populace away from things that glorify the love of humanity.

I tend to go to the idealistic view, when the methods of this book are used by wealthy perps to build their private rooms with a rack/hangers and going beyond with closed circuit cameras allowing groups of perps to watch, reliving their own fantasy; when they go beyond with more private rooms with a hugh stainless steel sink, garden hose, floor drain and a power saw. All as they start on their 21st reading of their favorite book. Of course the original idea came from underground S&M magazines. Maybe they should just learn that their inner story they tell themselves needs to be held in check. I am sad over this.

I support the realistic view and the idealistic view as two paradigms of the same problem.

Premieres tonight at 8:00PM (EDT) on Lifetime:

Girl in the Box (2016 TV Movie)

May 1977. 22-year-old Colleen Stan is hitching from Oregon to California to visit friends. With a little over 40 miles of her journey left, she accepts a lift from a young couple, Cameron and Janice Hooker. It's a fateful decision. Kidnapped at knifepoint, Colleen spends the next seven years imprisoned for up to 23 hours a day in a coffin-sized box hidden beneath her captors' bed. When not incarcerated, she is employed as the Hooker's slave and child-minder, and is gradually drawn into a bizarre and complex world of extreme obsession and fantasy... Based on a true story, GIRL IN THE BOX is a dark psychological drama told through the eyes of one of the crime's perpetrators, Janice Hooker. Janice came under the spell of the likeable and charismatic Cameron when just sixteen: but Cameron harbours a dark secret: an insatiable addiction to extreme bondage and S&M. Unable to cope with Cameron's ever more extreme demands, Janice strikes a deal: if Cameron will stop using her for his S&M practices and let her have a child, she will allow him to keep a slave. It's a deal with the devil...

Followed by documentary at 10:00PM (EDT): Colleen Stan: The Girl in the Box.

Hooker was convicted in 1985 and sentenced to 74 years in state prison. But with changes in state law and his accumulation of "good credits" made him eligible for parole last year.

The new trial that will determine if Cameron Hooker, the 'Girl in the Box' captor, is granted a full release has been postponed until late March after his lawyer received COVID-19.
