There have been no arrests in either case and authorities have not yet linked the two shootings which occurred just four days apart. However, authorities have not ruled out the possibility. An announcement on a possible lead in the case could be made today.

Oh my I already found this unnerving. What would be the motive? I have not seen anything suggesting these victims were robbed. I want to know what the rumors are. It sounds like there may be some truth to them but they can't say it yet.

"I know there are a lot of rumors. We don't know anything right now that is concrete. Due to some of the evidence at the scene, lead us to believe both subjects that were killed were on the side of the road. You can speculate about different things. We are not eliminating anything as a possibility on how they got on the side of the road," said John Champion, district attorney.

"If someone attempts to pull you over with flashing lights and you feel unsure of stopping, DON'T PULL OVER. Use your cell phone and dial 911 and if it's a real officer then the dispatcher will confirm it for you and if it's not a real officer they will send help to you."

They also said their deputies have been told not to overreact if someone does not immediately pull over.

Thank you for those links Bit Analyzer.

Any one know the exact locations of the shootings. I can't find MS 713 on the map I have. One article said the shooting happened 55 miles apart and in two diffrent counties. Thanks.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said it has gotten hundreds of tips, but none of them have cracked the case of the highway killer yet.

"It's one of the things that we're gonna make sure that we've got extra patrols on these highways and on our country roads also because you may never know where it may hit the next time. Just because it's been on the interstates the last two times doesn't mean it's going to stay on the interstates," said DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco.

Until the search for the person responsible for these shootings is over, traffic stops by unmarked law enforcement vehicles is being suspended.

:seeya: Good Morning,

I just found this thread ... I heard about this yesterday on Vinnie Politan on HLN ... he briefly covered this story.

This is scary ! I go to the Gulf Coast a lot !

I am not as familiar with North Miss. as I am with South Miss. so I checked out maps ... do not know how to post one but added a link.

Here is a link for a map:

And a Crown Victoria no less. The typical cop car.

I thought they had some evidence that pointed to a cop impersonator but according to this article that isn't so.

Rasco and Highway Patrol spokesman Warren Strain say law enforcement agencies are not looking for any particular make of vehicle even though many tips have centered on the Ford Crown Victoria, the workhorse of law enforcement. Investigators say they are looking into whether someone posing as a law enforcement officer stopped the cars because of the circumstances of the killings, though they have no evidence to back that theory up.

If they don't have any evidence then I would guess they got their conclusion from the fact that there was no other way to get the cars to pull over. But I am wondering if people wouldn't pull over for a woman who appeared to be broke down on the road?

I was under the same impression. There are not a lot of reasons to pull over onto the side of the road that I can think of off the top of my head, but a woman having car touble would give someone a reason to pull over. I see it all the time. I think the area is rural, but I am not sure. In most rural areas a lot of people would not think twice about stopping to help a woman. I have even done it myself.

Suspect arrested in deadly Miss. highway shootings

http://www.wmctv.com/story/18545641/suspect-arrested-in-deadly-miss-highway-shootings

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain says 28-year-old James D. Willie will be charged with two counts of capital murder in the shootings. He's being held at the Tunica County jail in north Mississippi.
Strain says he was not posing as a police officer in the shootings as authorities previously suspected.
