Authorities Search For Missing FBI Agent

BURBANK, Calif. – *Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials and other law enforcement personnel searched a rugged mountain area Saturday for an FBI agent who had not been seen for more than 24 hours and was said to be despondent and possibly suicidal.
Los Angeles-based Special Agent Stephen Ivens was last seen by family members Thursday evening, KABC-TV reported. He left his Burbank home the next morning on foot and hasn't been seen since, FBI officials said at a news conference.
Ivens was distraught and authorities fear he may have harmed himself, according to KABC-TV. Officials did not say why Ivens was distraught.
A search of his home did not turn up his handgun and police believe he may have taken it with him.

About 100 FBI agents, 40 sheriff's department rescuers and a dozen local police officers were participating in the search for Ivens.

Gomez said dogs had tracked Ivens' scent toward the rugged Verdugo Mountains, but searchers spread out throughout Los Angeles County.

"A search continued early Monday for a missing FBI agent from Burbank, California, whom authorities have described as suicidal and possibly carrying a handgun."

Odd no photo yet. Or maybe not, depending on the nature of his work. Hope they find him and that he's okay.

    Nothing new here......

Officials search L.A. mountains for missing FBI agent

An urgent search for an FBI agent who went missing last week stretched into its fourth day Monday, with authorities reporting little progress.

The missing agent, Stephen Ivens,35, left on foot from his home in the 1700 block of Scott Road in Burbank on Friday morning and was reported missing by his family a short time later.

A 40-member search-and-rescue team from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department joined about a dozen Burbank police officers and 100 FBI agents in the search for him Saturday; but despite the massive response and dozens of tips from the public, Ivens wasn't found.

Ivens’ scent in the Verdugo Mountains could have been from an earlier hike, Eimiller said, adding that the search was wide open.

snipped...Ivens was distraught, according to KCBS. Officials did not say why Ivens was emotionally disturbed, but the FBI is working to find out if Ivens' work had anything to do with his disappearance.

Wife of missing FBI agent says child is asking for Daddy

The wife of a missing FBI agent appealed for the public's help in tracking him down Tuesday, saying in a letter that 35-year-old Stephen Ivens is "more than just a missing person."

Authorities have been engaged in a massive manhunt since Ivens left on foot from his home in the 1700 block of Scott Road in Burbank on Friday morning. He was reported missing by his family a short time later, and police feared that he was armed and suicidal.

On Tuesday, his wife, Thea Ivens, released a personal appeal for his safe return.

"Steve, if you are out there listening right now, your wife wants to let you know, 'Babe, we are in this together for better or for worse. I love you, no matter what happens.' Your child wants you to know, 'Daddy's work? Daddy home?'"
