Lawrence police seeking missing man (kansascity.com)
Lawrence police are looking for a man who has not been seen since Saturday morning and whose vehicle was found abandoned Saturday evening in Douglas County.

Family members of Yelekal Alemu in Olathe are worried because he has missed important family gatherings. The former University of Kansas student, who goes by Kal, is 23 years old, about five-feet-10inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has short hair and a full beard.

Says the car was found on private property, and the owner of the property did not know him.

No news, all the articles I find have pretty much the same information.

How scary, for his car to end up on private prop out in the country, and no trace of him there.

    Come home soon, Yelekal.

Would be nice to know exactly where his car was found - the video said two miles east and south of Lawrence, which would maybe put it within walking distance of the Wakarusa River. Generally, though, if one were going to drown oneself, the Kaw River (a.k.a. Kansas River), which flows through Lawrence, would be the waterway of choice, I'd think.

YEs, the most I could find was "rural area".

We see a great many cases here of guys around this age who disappear, and later end up near, in, or heading towards water. A lot of times after a night of partying. I didn't get this impression from what little there is about Yelekai. And then like you said, there would have been a closer river than the one near where the car may have been found?

All this makes that car being found out there in a rural area all the more strange and frightening.

Former KU student’s body found east of Lawrence; no foul play suspected (Lawrence Journal World)
Douglas County authorities Friday identified a 23-year-old former Kansas University student, Yelekal Alemu, as the person whose body was found Thursday east of Lawrence.
    ---.
Lewis said Friday morning a Lawrence police officer who was conducting a follow-up investigation into Alemu’s disappearance found the body in a wooded area south of the Wakarusa River, near Douglas County Road 1057.

“The investigation indicates there’s no foul play,” Lewis said.

Senanem Gizaw, Alemu’s friend since kindergarten, said Alemu, who most recently worked as a cook at Buffalo Wild Wings in Lawrence, was smart and well-liked.

“Life of the party,” said Gizaw, in short, muted clips — at times barely audible, a couple of days before Alemu’s body was discovered. “People gravitated toward him.”
