    ME - Nathan Bihlmaier, 31, Portland, 19 May 2012

Portland police search for missing Mass. man

    http://www.necn.com/05/21/12/Portlan...58&feedID=4206

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Authorities in Maine are looking for a Massachusetts man who was reported missing after spending a night out with friends in Portland.

Police say 31-year-old Nathan Bihlmaier of Cambridge, Mass. and two friends were at a bar in the city's Old Port section Saturday night when he decided to leave early.

His friends later went back to their hotel room but he never showed up.

Police on Sunday tracked his cellphone calls and found he never left the city. Divers also searched the harbor waters but did not find anything.

Police say Bihlmaier is about to graduate from Harvard Business School and his wife is pregnant with their first child.

Authorities are asking the public for help in finding him.

The Old Port is an easy place to get lost, or into trouble. With the whole drinking scene it wouldnt surprise me if this man had fallen into the water off one of the numerous piers. Having lived in Portland for nearly 30 years Ive seen and heard of a lot of people slipping off into the bay. I hope some closure can come to the family.

Very sad, happens too often in the Old Port. The Portland Police do a great job of protecting the city, just wish there was more patrols along the piers at night.

"He says the rule is, if someone is visibly intoxicated, they need to leave the premises; however, that's not necessarily what he wants bartenders to do. He says the best bet, to keep the individual safe, and the bar owners, safe from liability, is to isolate the person in a corner away from alcohol, give them water, coffee, or food, and call them a cab if they need one."

That's a pretty good idea, especially given the proximity of the water, boats, and piers...even locals succumb to injuries and or near drowning, even worse when a "tourist" is out and about.

    Rest in Peace young man.
