When the final rifle volley of the American Legion honor guard fades into silence, it’s the sign for Delbert Schueller to raise his trumpet to his lips for the playing of taps.

Schueller, 81, has performed this poignant graveside ritual hundreds of times for deceased Willmar-area veterans and their surviving families.

To my Dad, I hope, when you walked over, you walked on to the best greens you have ever played and that you are having the best back 9 ever. Thank you Daddy, I miss you.
 
My husband served for 29 years, my son is currently serving, anther son served for 4 years. I totally repsect all service men/woman especially their families for many will never know all what they go through. It takes a strong woman/man to hold down the home front so that the active duty member doesn't have to worry about the homefront and put his life or mission in jeapordy.

Thank you also to all past and present military member no matter if they served oversea's, the soup kitchen, the laterine queen or any job. Each job is importnt for the mission to be successful!

This pacifist would like to give a shout out to veterans who, like my husband did, work behind the lines in areas like intelligence, crypto, tech, etc... The nerds who crunch the data, keep up the equipment, make sure the servers are running smoothly, and have awesome pc and tabletop gaming parties after hours. Best D&D game I ever took part in was with a bunch of these guys and gals. Many fond memories of a bunch of young service geeks who kept the data flowing. :D
 
I want to recognize my parents Ray Lawson and Jean Mather Lawson - USAF, my sister Cora Lawson Tyler USN, my father-in-law Keith Carney USN, my nephew Danny Jarrett USMC, and my son-in-law Robert Bilek USArmy for their contribution to our freedom and security.
 
I was just thinking, after I saw this thread, "Um, did I ever thank my dad for fighting for three years in the Pacific on a Navy ship in WWII?" Uh, no, I guess I didn't. It would, I think, have embarrassed him - he pretty well low-keyed his whole war experience, and told no tales. I did find out - from my mom - his role when the Navy would set the Marines down on those scores of tiny islands and atolls; while "Pharmacist's Mate" didn't sound like the most adventurous of designations, it also meant that he went in right after the Marines, in a Navy team of stretcher bearers, and was constantly under fire hauling out the wounded. Good grief - my dad was a Kansas farm boy in his mid-20's and, till the war, had never even seen an ocean. Brave stuff.

So thanks, dad. All you would ever say was, "I served for my country." And that is plenty.
