Baumgartner, 21, is the subject of a massive manhunt and is believed to be in a dark blue Ford-150 truck with an Albertan licence plate of ZRE724. Edmonton police, RCMP and Canadian and U.S. customs officials are working on the case.

The three dead, two men and one woman, were security guards from G4S Canada and a fourth is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, company spokesperson Robin Steinberg confirmed earlier.

Note: in later news articles the vehicle licence number has been changed to CAA 636.

Two of the murdered victims and the injured victim were locked in a room behind the ATM machines in the mall. Campus safety personnel heard the injured victim crying out in pain.

Mother pleads for U of A shooting suspect to turn himself in

Police located a G4S armoured van, abandoned and empty, about 70 blocks east of the university, and less than 200 metres away from the company's Edmonton property. It wasn't immediately clear whether it was related to the shooting, but officers were treating it as a crime scene.

Knecht said the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. border security are also involved in the search.

video at link as well as a lot of detail about the crime. The suspect's mother's plea (read by police) is heartbreaking.

Even more heartbreaking, of course, are the emerging details about the victims.

CBC News has confirmed that Brian Ilesic, 35, Michelle Shegelski, 26, and Eddie Rejano, 39, were the three guards who were killed. Injured guard Matthew Schuman remains in hospital.

Shegelski's mother-in-law, Henrietta Shegelski, said Michelle just married her son in April.

"She was really Victor's soulmate. He was so in love with her," Shegelski said. "He's devastated. She was just such a beautiful person. So friendly. So alive. So full of fun. Everybody that knew her loved her."

"Brian was deeply loved by his family and friends and leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter. We feel very blessed that he was in our lives, although taken from us much too soon.

Mother pleads with son to turn himself in to police

For Immediate Release:15-Jun-2012 @ 9:31 PM

MRU #:H12R007-3

EPS File #:

The mother of Travis Baumgartner, the 21-year-old Sherwood Park resident wanted on Canada-wide warrants for first degree murder, made an emotional plea to her son Friday evening, to turn himself into police.

“I’m sorry that we had an argument last night, and had bad words between us, but I want you to come home and do the right thing. Let’s work this out together,” Sandy Baumgartner told EPS.

“Trav’, as your mother, I ask that you come forward now and take responsibility for your actions. Please Travis, I love you, and I’m pleading with you with all of my heart, to end this without further bloodshed. As your mother, I promise to you now, that I will be there by your side to support you.”

“You are not alone Trav’. Please, I love you and want to help you. Call police now and end this peacefully.”

An international manhunt has been launched with multiple policing organizations collaborating across numerous borders in a concerted effort to locate Baumgartner, the primary suspect in an armed robbery at the University of Alberta, Friday, July 15, 2012. Police believe the 21-year-old fellow armoured guard shot and killed three of his armoured guard colleagues and put a fourth guard in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Superintendent of EPS’s Criminal Investigations Division Bob Hassel also had a message for Baumgartner.

“We want Travis to take responsibility for this situation and turn himself in to police,” stated Hassel adding, “Most every police organization has a copy of his photo and are actively supporting the EPS in an expansive manhunt.”

Canada-wide warrants have been issued for Baumgartner’s arrest for three counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Police believe Baumgartner is “armed and dangerous” and are urging the public to use extreme caution should they happen to encounter Baumgartner.

Baumgartner, a G4S armoured vehicle employee, is believed to be one of several armoured company employees that attended the U of A around midnight today, Friday, June 15, 2012, to make a delivery.

Baumgartner (See photo below) is the owner of a dark blue Ford F-150 pick-up truck (See photo below) with an Alberta licence plate number, CAA 636, which police now believe is his most recent vehicle plate.

“We now know that the suspect has changed his licence plate,” said Hassel.

Anyone with information on Baumgartner’s whereabouts is urged to contact the EPS complaint line at 780-423-4567 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 . The EPS has assigned additional employees to monitor the CrimeStoppers phone line.

Edmonton triple-murder suspect on the run with cash, weapons and body armour

Investigators are now pleading with the suspect's friends to share information, and for rural landowners to report any suspicious activity - tire tracks, open doors, signs of life in unused buildings - to police.

At the same time, they're warning people not to approach Mr. Baumgartner.

Still not caught. :( The manhunt continues.

The fact that this guy killed/tried to kill 4 of his fellow workers....people that he knew...shows how dangerous he would be to approach. He clearly planned this for a while. Where is he hiding?

He could hide somewhere rural. Has TB been known to camp or rough it in the wild?

Alternatively, he could try to cross the border, where the media wouldn't pay as much attention. I personally don't think he would cross the US border, but you never know. Where are unmanned areas where people could cross?

How else could he use that money to 'disappear'?

On a different note, does anyone have any links to scanners for the RCMP in Alberta?

JUST IN: He's been caught.

No linky yet, it's on CP24 and on a banner on CBC news. He was found at the BC-Washington border crossing, no passport with his mom's plates. Good riddance. He'll get 25 years in prison for killing 3 people and hopefully the fourth victim will pull through.

EDMONTON - Edmonton police service sources have confirmed accused killer Travis Baumgartner is in custody at the border crossing in Linden, Wash.

Does Washington State have the death penalty? Maybe they can do us a favour and have the trial there. :furious:

:jail:

Thank goodness he is caught/arrested. Rest in peace Michelle SHEGELSKI, Eddy (or Eddie) REJANO and Brian ILESIC.

Good thoughts going out to the 4th victim and may all the blessings be with you for survival and recovery from this horrendous crime.

Fantastic news!! I'm so glad that no one else was hurt before or during his capture.

Now we can focus on the victims.

U of A shooting Day 2 update: Accused killer of armoured car guards caught at U.S. border with $330,000 in cash

Mike Milne with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a computerized licence-plate reader scanned the back of Baumgartner’s Ford F-150 and an armed-and-dangerous alert sounded. Officers approached the truck and took him into custody without a fight about 3:10 p.m. local time. Baumgartner did not have a gun.

Survivor of U of A shooting wakes from coma

EDMONTON - The security guard who survived the deadly armoured car robbery at the University of Alberta earlier this month has awoken from an induced coma and can communicate, his family says.

In a statement released to Global News on Monday, Matthew Schuman's fiancee Jennifer said he's been moved out of the intensive care unit placed in a monitoring ward.

"He recognizes his family and was overwhelmed with joy to see our two-year old son for the first time last night since the incident," Jennifer said.

"He was eagerly attentive when our son attempted to describe a new toy he received. Matthew's communication skills are limited, but we do understand each other."
