FL - Guma Aguiar, 35, Fort Lauderdale, 19-June-2012

There was a body found in Biscayne Bay this morning but it sounds as if the body has decomposed for a few days and can't be Mr. Aguiar.

    https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=e...=h&mra=ls&z=11

    http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/06/2...cayne-bay.html
"Detectives investigating the case said the face is decomposed."

“Looks like he’s been in the water for a few days,” said Detective T. Cepero."

There is a tropical low in the middle-west of Cuba all the way thru the lower part of FL. Been a while since I've sailed (and that was in the Gulf of Mexico) so not familiar with the currents. A 31 foot vessel might have a problem. Does it say anywhere that he was an experienced boater?

    Southsleuth,
I read or heard that he was an experienced boater but now I do not know where I may have read it, sorry.

    ETA: Found it.

"One of Aguiar's attorneys, Fred Haddad, said his client is knowledgeable about boats."

dsntslp-Thank you! I read the articles but was more concerned trying to figure out the boat that was found capsized. The one's I read made it sound like a 31 ft yacht, and had to do a "Do What" turn around, until I figured out it was the tender, not the yacht he took out. I'm afraid he drowned.

Ohhh, the tender is the 31 ft boat they use to go back and forth from the yacht to land.

"The U.S. Coast Guard is working with local authorities in their search for Aguiar, which is spanning at least 3 miles offshore from where his vessel, the T.T. Zion was found."
"WPTV in Florida reports that the T.T. Zion is a tender for Aguiar’s yacht, named Zion."

    http://www.crownheights.info/index.php?itemid=44848
"Aguiar's 31-foot, center console Jupiter boat, the T.T. Zion, a tender for the yacht Zion, landed on the sand east of East Las Olas Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, with its navigation lights on and engines still running, police said."

Thank you Southsleuth. I am not a boater and I read it as a 31ft yacht capsized. I thought that was small for a yacht. I learned something new today! TY again.

    Southsleuth,
If you were to look at currents etc... for that evening at Wunderground.com or another similar site, would it be possible to figure out if it is even remotely possibly that the body found in Biscayne Bay is his?

I am sure LE would have identified him by now if it were him though.
I'll go look for a thread on the body found and take the discussion of it there.

U.S. Coast Guard ends search for missing millionaire

The U.S. Coast Guard has ended its search for a Brazilian-born multimillionaire whose fishing boat washed up on a south Florida beach this week.

    [snip]

"Based on the surveillance footage, as well as witness statements, detectives are confident that Guma boarded the vessel by himself and departed from his dock as the sole occupant of the boat," a police statement said.

I just saw this on the msnbc headline ... interesting article ...

Report: Missing Florida tycoon's wife asked for divorce hours before he disappeared

The wife of missing Florida oil tycoon Guma Aguiar told him she wanted a divorce just hours before he disappeared, his mother's lawyer told ABCNews.com.

Aguiar's disappearance has triggered a fight for control of his nearly $100 million estate between his mother and his wife. His mother, Ellen Aguiar, said she believes her son may have been in a delusional state or suffering from psychosis, according to court records. She filed an emergency petition while rescuers were still searching for Aguiar's body last week. She amended that petition Monday, asking that a bank take control because it is a neutral third party, her attorney Ilene Lieberman said.

Without a trace: the strange disappearing act of Guma Aguiar

Guma Aguiar had it all: money, a mansion on the water, a beautiful family, 10 servants and a $2.1 million yacht. But he also had personal demons.

Two questions then, beg to be answered. WHY would he do this, if he cannot benefit from the Billion or so personally , being fought over, that might be his half of the proceeds by going through the courts, and sharing with the uncle.

How can you do this by staging your own disappearance?

The wife as noted is cashing in and selling assets, but it's still quite confusing as to the wheres and whys of it all., although it appears he is gone or at least the court must think so, to allow his estate to be disbursed this way?

But then again, the uncle is asking for the emails and communications to all be carefully studied., so he must really believe this is a scam perpetrated by Guma, UNLESS, this is a ploy used to divert attention away from himself as the "beneficiary" of said lawsuit? Hmm.

Appears it's being done, in a response of his mother's initial court appearance, filing to control his assets. At least that is how it now sounds as I research the various news items:

Amazing this thread hasn't exactly caugt fire. Fascinating case: big money, mother v. daughter-in-law, divorce proceedings, possible fraud, philanthropy, insanity, daily updates for newsworthiness.

Daily Mail's take on prospective sale of house, yacht:

Missing millionaire's wife wants to sell their mansion and
yacht two weeks after his mysterious disappearance at sea

If he was having psychological problems and the wife was asking for a divorce, he may have just taken the boat out and killed himself by jumping overboard. He could have been that off balance and the wife is not in anyway involved.

Guma Aguiar, missing millionaire case: Disappearance subject of a lot of theories

Bring up multimillionaire Guma Aguiar's mysterious disappearance at sea and you'll hear lots of theories:

He died in a tragic boating accident, leaving behind a beautiful wife and four young children.

Tormented by psychological illness, he committed suicide.

Or, others suggest, he faked his death to dodge a half-dozen lawsuits pecking at his $100 million fortune.

If Aguiar disappeared on purpose, he may want to note that many have tried in Florida, and most have failed.

New Details in Case of Missing Millionaire Guma Aguiar

Ever since he has gone missing, the relatives of Jewish millionaire Guma Aguiar won't stop quarreling over the property he left behind. He suffered from severe bipolar disorder, was arrested several times after bizarre tirades, institutionalized at least twice, and detained involuntarily for psychiatric evaluation under the state’s Baker Act a litany of times.
At the time of his disappearance, he was being treated with various medications by Dr. Scott Segal of North Miami.
“He was very fearful, he felt very alone,” said his mother, who had been trying for years to get him into a reputable long-term mental-health treatment facility. She believes that medicating her son only compounded his mental problems; he needed the kind of treatment that looked more deeply into the root cause.
Clearly she was not very supportive of his need to continue taking his medication.
