Rolling Stones at 50: moss gathered, stories told

Entertaining Sunday Mail article about the band which started on 12 July 1962:

The Stones on the Stones: Half a century after their first gig, the
most famous band in the world tell their amazing rock 'n' roll story

    ---
Keith Richards: Madness. In the mid-Sixties, it would be: ‘How are we getting into the theatre?’ and ‘How are we getting out?’

On stage, it would last maybe ten minutes at most before it became a shambles, a riot, and the Red Cross was there with these stretchers for these poor girls, sweating with all their dresses up in the air. And you wonder what the hell you’re doing there. It’s like some Hieronymus Bosch painting in front of your eyes – and that’s the audience.
    ---
much, much more, with pictures, at link above

Still my favorite Stones clip, from the documentary 'Gimme Shelter' by Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin:

Ye olde rock chestnut "Angela caught David in bed with Mick" tale raises its head again:

Can't have '60s-era Stones without Marianne Faithfull, who co-wrote the song but had to sue to get her rights to the proceeds.

    A few recent Stones articles:

When I saw the Rolling Stones play live (Guardian)
    ---
Saw them at the City Hall Newcastle around about 1964 I think. Mick Jagger was then the coolest man on the planet but we couldn't hear much because of the screaming girls. Bloody brilliant it was and my future wife, who I didn't know then, was at the gig too. Best group that ever played. And bollocks to all those that say it's time they hung up their boots - keep on rocking. The best blues music is made by old men.

"I drank too much and took drugs. I went mad really": Charlie Watts,
the calm man of the Rolling Stones, looks back at 50 years of chaos
