    Linnea Lomax: Weekend Search Scheduled
It’s a search where the hope is not to find anything belonging to Linnea Lomax.
About 50 volunteers searched an area of the American River near Howe Avenue Friday. The location is significant because it’s the last place the 19-year-old was seen nearly two months ago.

Searchers from the Klaas Kids Foundation and Bay Area Missing are in Sacramento for a new weekend push to find 19-year-old missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax.

"The biggest portion of what we're doing is going out along the river,"sweeping through those areas, just trying once and for all to eliminate the possibility of her being there," said Brad Dennis of the Klaas Kids Foundation.

Volunteers Find Clue in Linnea Lomax Case
Volunteers found the clue along the American River Bike Trail this afternoon. "It was a notepad, the book she was using in the therapy session she was in. It gives us some direction, maybe even some insight to what she was thinking," Craig says.
The extended search for Linnea has been made possible by Mark Klaas.

Searchers find notebook of missing UC Davis student
A notebook and folder belonging to 19-year-old missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax was found in the brush near a bike trail along the American River Sunday afternoon.

Searchers from the KlaasKids Foundation and Bay Area Missing were in Sacramento for the weekend to help find the teenager.

"It did at least confirm that our best guesses were right and that she would have accessed that trail system, said Brass Dennis of the KlassKids Foundation. "That does dove tail into a lot of the sightings that we've had. So, now it's just a matter of going out and eliminating a lot of that area."

Mother tells how she found Linnea Lomax hanging by river; parents thank searchers
Thrashing through the thick brush on the banks of the American River on Friday morning, Marianne Lomax got on her hands and knees, crawled through the bramble and came to what she called a "pretty place" alongside the water.
There, she found her 19-year-old daughter Linnea, hanging from a tree.
"I looked for two seconds and I knew it was her," recalled Marianne Lomax, wrapped in a prayer shawl and standing alongside her husband, Craig. "I believe God brought me to her, and there's closure because of that."

UNEDITED: Dad talks about Linnea’s mental illness
Craig Lomax, dad to Linnea Lomax, talks about the events leading up to the disappearance and suicide of Linnea in this extended and unedited interview with News10 Cristina Mendonsa.

Mental illness tends develop in young adults when they experience several changes in short amount of time
The journey to college is an exhilarating time for most young adults as they leave home to establish a foundation for success in life.

It can also be a fragile time for those struggling with mental illness; 20 percent of college students suffer mental distress or mental illness with suicide being the number two cause of death in college aged adults.

Reporter's Notebook: Cristina Mendonsa on Mental Illness in Young Adults
The thought was always to respect the family and that a suicide was more of a tragic personal event than a crime that needed media scrutiny. We covered Linnea Lomax's disappearance extensively when we were unsure of the circumstances but the coverage was curtailed once her body was found and we confirmed it was a suicide. I couldn't stop wondering about this young woman who smiled at us from pictures, had a loving family and a seemingly bright future. I wondered about the months leading up to her suicide and wondered about the role mental illness might've played.

I requested an interview with the Lomax family because I hoped there would be lessons from Linnea that could help others. They are a lovely family who loved and supported Linnea, they are intensely proud of her and her mental decline hit them by surprise.

The grief of two families touched by suicide is fueling a drive at the California Capitol to pass legislation requiring all mental health professionals in the state to be trained in suicide prevention.

Craig Lomax lost his daughter Linnea Lomax in 2012 when the UC Davis freshman had a mental break while studying for finals. The family intervened to get her into treatment, but Linnea walked away from the facility.

"My wife and I were working very hard to keep her alive," Craig Lomax said.
