CO - Patricia Wallace, 74, Boulder County, 3 July 2012

Patricia Wallace, 74, of Lafayette, has been missing since 4 p.m. July 3. She was hiking the Buchannan Pass Trail with a group of friends when she decided to take a route she thought would be easier.
Boulder and Grand county crews have ended the two-week old search for a Lafayette woman who went missing while hiking near Camp Dick, officials said Monday.

I started this thread for our dear friend, Hoppyfrog. She is in contact with a professional SAR group that searched intensively for Patricia. For example, this group took 8 hours to clear a grid of 1/8 of a mile and they found many many many items, but absolutely nothing attributed to Patricia. Nothing with her scent. She was an experienced hiker, and Hoppy feels that some consideration should be given to the possibility she made it out of the woods and has been transported elsewhere. Patricia's daughter indicates that she had been showing some memory lapses lately.

Are there any locals who can weigh in here??

So I wonder, did she have a cell phone with her, car keys, ipad...anything that could be pinged? I am assuming that happened.

Daughter of missing Lafayette hiker says ordeal has brought her closer to mother

The daughter of the hiker who went missing in Boulder County in early July says that losing her mother has actually allowed her to get to know her better.

Brough said that Wallace likely died from lack of water or exposure to the elements, as temperatures were as low as the 50s at that time in the area.

Daughter Of Hiker Missing Since July Wants Closure

It’s been months since she disappeared and there is still no sign of a missing woman from Lafayette.

Authorities don’t suspect foul play, but they’re frustrated by the lack of leads, and so is the woman’s daughter.

    2012 Year in Review

    [snip]

Pat Wallace, of Lafayette, went missing on July 3 while hiking in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. She was 74 at the time she went missing and was reported as suffering from the early stages of dementia and minor memory lapses. The search for the woman was suspended after more than two weeks due to the search and rescue's crews exhausted resources and leads. Grand County Search and Rescue and Boulder County Search and Rescue searched for the woman. Wallace remains a missing person and the case has been considered inactive as no further leads have developed.

Family gathers to remember Lafayette hiker a year after she went missing

It's been a year since Lafayette resident Patricia Wallace went missing while hiking the Buchanan Pass Trail in western Boulder County, but the search for Wallace -- who officials presume is dead -- is no closer to a resolution than it was the day she went missing.

Human remains discovered in Grand County this summer are believed to be Patricia Wallace, the 74-year-old Lafayette woman who went missing after a hike on Buchannan Pass Trail in Boulder County in 2012.

Grand County Coroner Brenda Bock today announced that bones and clothing found with the remains are consistent with Wallace, 74, who was last seen hiking with friends near Camp Dick on July 3, 2012. An ID for Wallace was found in a backpack...

A DNA sample has been sent for analysis, but Wallace's family has been informed the remains are likely hers, the coroner said.

Missing hiker's remains discovered after 2 years

    http://www.9news.com/story/news/loca...ness/14295171/

"On Aug 9, the family, from New Mexico, was searching for a flat campsite in the 9,800 to 10,000 elevation area along the Thunderbolt Creek in Grand County when they discovered bones they believed to be human remains.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office believes the remains are of 74-year-old Patricia Wallace, from Lafayette, a hiker who was reported missing after straying from her group along the Buchanan trail on July 3, 2012."

I followed this case very closely. I'm glad that her family can bring her home.

I wonder how far Thunderbolt Creek in Grand County is from where she was last seen (Buchanan Trail, Camp Dick).

Honestly, I thought a mountain lion got her and she would never be found. I hope her cod will be able to be determined. I wonder if she got lost, or had a health issue on the trail (heart attack, etc). (I still get nervous after the circumstances re: Amy Ahonen).

The family that found the body was traveling from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and issued a statement saying they were "saddened by the discovery, but also realized that this would help bring closure to the family of the missing person."

"This was a ways off the beaten path," the family said in the statement. "If we had done any one thing differently that afternoon, even little things, we would not have made the discovery. With all the tall vegetation and the stream, the discovery was like finding a needle in a haystack.

"It's a bit of a miracle that we were where we were at. That little miracle is what it took for the family to have closure. We offer our prayers and well wishes to the family."
A miracle indeed. TY Granny for posting these updates.

    RIP Patricia
