Cross-channel swimmer dies with less than a
mile to go on his first attempt at the 21-mile swim
(Sunday Mail)
A swimmer who died on a 21-mile-long crossing of the English Channel had just one kilometre left to go when tragedy struck.

Paraic Casey, 45, from Co Cork, Ireland, had been swimming for more than 16 hours when he took ill just over half a mile off the coast of France early this morning.
---
Updates on his Twitter page had been following his every stroke and told how he said he was exhausted before they suddenly stopped.
---
A speedboat of rescuers from Calais also rushed to the scene but despite several attempts medics were unable to revive him.

Will the British ever learn to speak English?

"He fell ill" sounds like he suddenly caught the flu off the coast of France.
