An 11-year-old boy who managed to fly from Manchester to Rome without a passport, ticket or boarding pass on the eve of the London Olympic Games has left red faces among airport officials, who are investigating how he did it.

Manchester Airport spokesman John Greenway said initial inquiries revealed the boy passed through border controls and ticket checks without documentation on Tuesday just by closely tailing families. He was discovered only after passengers raised concerns mid-way through the flight.

The boy was escorted back to Manchester on a return flight and reunited with his parents on Tuesday evening.

:what:

L*** had travelled less than three miles from a nearby shopping centre, before evading five security checks to successfully board flight LS791 to the Italian capital.
...
Speaking yesterday, L*** said: “Getting on the plane was easier than doing my homework. I didn’t have anything on me and no one asked me for anything. They smiled at me when I went through.”

He said he had just been looking for a lavatory and kept searching until he ended up on the plane.

The 11 year-old told The Sun: “I went to the toilet and sat there but I couldn’t get out. Then 'whoosh’, we were going up in the sky.”

I wonder why he really wanted to board a plane. The toilet may have been where he was hiding during while everybody took their seats and the plane left but it seems extremely unlikely that a plane behind five security checks was the most easily accessible toilet that he could find.

Doesn't everyone want a free trip to Italy? LOL

Kidding aside, this kid has some issues, me thinks. Was he running away maybe? Or just out for an adventure and he decided it would be fun to go to the airport and board a plane? What 11 year old thinks that? :waitasec:

Where were the kid's parents while all this was going on?

So....This kid was just looking for a bathroom?? At the age of 11 he didn't think to ask an adult where the bathroom is? He just wanders for three miles and ends up on a passenger plane? Takes a seat on the plane and doesn't think maybe he shouldn't be there.... Good lord!! How does anyone just happen to wander into the bathroom of a commercial jetliner by mistake in 2012? I mean really!! lol

Calling BS on this kid's story!

This kid is making up a story. He didn't make past all of that security and onto that plane, just accidentally by looking for a bathroom. LOL
