Hi,

I couldn't find a thread on this case:

Unidentified White Male

The victim was discovered on April 3, 2004 in Northridge, Los Angeles County, California

Skeletal Remains

Vital Statistics

Estimated age: 15-23 years old
Approximate Height and Weight: 5'4"; weight unknown.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Hair and eye color undetermined.
Dentals: Available. 3rd molars are unerupted and teeth 4, 7, 13 are missing postmortem.

Case History

The victim was located on a horse trail near 12100 Tampa Avenue in Northridge, California on April 3, 2004.

What do you think of these two possible matches:

Michael William Negrete http://dojapp.doj.ca.gov/missing/detail.asp?FCN=2320018900283

Kenneth Stephen Haley http://dojapp.doj.ca.gov/missing/detail.asp?FCN=3040301000221

This UID is estimated to be between 15 and 23 and his estimated year of death is 2003 or 2004. Kenneth Haley was last seen in 2001, he was 21 and he would have been 23 or 24 in 2003-2004. There is a time discrepancy but Kenneth Haley was listed as a voluntary missing adult on the California Department of Justice missing persons index and if he left on his own accord it might be possible that he died only in 2003. Also, Kenneth was 5'07 and the UID was around 5'04, there's a difference but I don't know if this difference is big enough to rule it out. It was also stated that Kenneth Haley has his front teeth capped but the UID was missing teeth #7 to 13 postmortem according to NamUs.

I contacted the California Department of Justice by e-mail via their website about 3-4 months ago, asking if Kenneth Stephen Haley had been looked at a possible match but never got any reply. I can't phone as I live in France... :banghead:

I have been trying to keep an eye out for anything pertaining to Negrete. I went to college in Northridge and am very familiar with the area-- I am 99% sure I know the trail where this UID was found, so this opening post really caught my eye.
I don't believe Negrete would be a good match. Height is quite off as well as timeline. Negrete went missing from UCLA (about 20 miles away) in 1999 IIRC.

I will have to ask around, but I think that around 2004 that whole area was under construction. A large shopping center was being built essentially next door to where this UID was found. I wonder if this could be a worker?

It's up closer to Sesnon Bl than Rinaldi where shopping center was built. I live about 2 miles from there. There was a huge fire all through there in 2008-fwiw.

I can call Devonshire Division and resubmit your MP.

ETA a lot of kids ride bikes along the paths. There are a number of horses in area, but not sure off top of my head how often they are used. Hmmm, may have to drive up there.

Hi branwynbreeze! I'm from that area, too but haven't lived there in awhile. Do you remember what years that shopping center was being built?
The reason I think it might be a construction worker/ some other person not from that area: that area is a higher end upper middle class area and most people there would report a family member missing. I have always felt that "wild" area where he was found is not one that is widely known throughout LA, it is more used by people in the wider neighborhood.

However, if this is someone involved in the construction that was happening around the area- they might have gone up there on a break, before or after work, etc. to walk around.

Another possibility since we don't know the COD (right)? My sister was up there in that area walking around with a friend and was mugged by two men who hopped out of a car with a gun. This would have been around 2002/2003. Luckily, they just took her money and ran. I still think he was a runaway or not from that area. Could be from the rest of the Valley, though so it doesn't matter I guess.

ETA: I was just up in that area a few weeks ago and didn't see any people out but it was friggin' hot there.

Also for the WSs out there: this area might be referred to as "Porter Ranch."

I can't remember when shopping center was built.

This weekend I'm going to try to get up there and take some pix, see if I can find the trail.

I have looked around the databases and am surprised that I haven't found a ton of possible matches, given his age. My guess is runaway or foster kid?

Paul James Sinclair, wanted for cocaine charges in Michigan, fits perfectly with the Northridge man. The location is off, but he may have ran into trouble while trying to flee the country.

Bryan's killer has been caught and convicted, and reportedly his body was dismembered and put in a dumpster behind a supermarket. But according to the LA County District Attorney's Office's website, it's possible that the body has been buried:
Garcia said Thome’s body was disposed of in a dumpster. It never has been found. Sheriff’s investigators think the body was buried in a landfill.

Could his body have not been buried at all?

No media updates I could see and Namus case not reviewed since earlier in the year. Namus still up.
