FL - Maisa Alvarez accused of chaining, stabbing 7-year-old son, 2012

lvarez, 44, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. She is accused of chaining her son's hands and repeatedly stabbing him.

In a statement to police about the events of Sept. 11, 2012, Alvarez said she felt nervous that morning, and a "bad spirit" took control of her. She took a chain and small luggage locks, went into the kitchen and picked up two knives from the counter.

According to the arrest affidavit, she walked to her son's bedroom, chained his hands and began stabbing him in the chest, shoulders and arms.

Alvarez told police that when she saw her son in pain, her love for him caused her to stop and call 911.

Sebring lawyer William David McNeal, representing Alvarez, stated in court records the child was released from the hospital that same day and his wounds didn't require stitches.

McNeal has filed court documents stating he will pursue an insanity defense in this case based on Alvarez's thyroid imbalance.
