TX - Teen brings gun to school

This happened here in our town at the high school yesterday.

ROWLETT, Texas - An 18-year-old student at Rowlett High School was arrested for carrying a loaded pistol to class on Thursday.

A teacher told the school's resource officer about rumors that a student was possibly in possession of a weapon in her classroom.

The officer and the assistant principal together confronted Carlos Bernard Perkins and asked if he had a gun in his backpack. The student admitted he did.

They found a loaded 9mm pistol in Perkins' backpack.

The what-ifs have been going through my mind all afternoon. I suppose I should just be thankful nothing set off the perpetrator during 5th period class.

Although, as CERT members, we have been taught to "Run, Hide, Fight" in the event of an active shooter, I'm not sure there is much that can be done when the shooter is only two or three feet away.
