UK - Megan Stammers, 15, East Sussex, 21 Sept 2012

A 15-year-old British girl who disappeared may be in France with a teacher twice her age, police said.

Megan Stammers, from Eastbourne, East Sussex, was reported missing after she didn’t come to school Friday, BBC News reported.

She was seen Friday night on an English Channel ferry headed to Calais, France.

She may have made the trip with Jeremy Forrest, a 30-year-old math teacher at her school.

Cops think the two are now traveling through France in Forrest’s Ford Fiesta.

Chief Inspector Jason Tingley said Sussex police are “at a critical stage of the investigation” into Megan’s disappearance and following several leads.

Oh my....What is wrong with some of these teachers today? This type of thing is happening more and more. We are sending our children to school with people we think we can trust....how sad that we can't trust anyone any more!

Basically the same pertinent info as the Sunday Mail article linked above, but with a few salacious "grooming" details added:

I hope they turn up soon as, the longer the situation goes on, the more of a 'Romeo and Juliet' feel it begins to have - and that play didn't end well.

Missing schoolgirl Megan Stammers 'excitable' before leaving for France with married teacher (Telegraph)
Schoolgirl Megan Stammers was like an "excitable puppy" the day she ran away to France with a married teacher, looking her mother in the eye and telling her she loved her before she left.

Megan, 15, had been "jumping around" with excitement before leaving on Friday, her mother Danielle Wilson said today.

Describing her as "childlike" and "adorable", tearful Ms Wilson made an emotional plea for her daughter to come home, begging her to get in touch.

did her parents know about this relationship? (or that she was communicating outside of school with him?) Some of the articles seem to hint at this???

Her family revealed that Megan had been receiving extra-curricular maths lessons since before the summer.

But they did not suspect any relationship between her and Forrest, a married amateur musician, who lives in Ringmer, near Lewes.

Mrs Wilson said: "There were a couple of subjects that she was struggling with and she was going to after-school extra tuition.

"One of them was maths, but that didn't alert me because I knew it wasn't one of her favourite subjects. I knew she struggled with it.

"For her to say that she was going to attend those classes was completely natural.

this article also says that a friend received a text from M but not from her phone: hopefully they will be able to ping it

A message was sent to a friend of runaway teenager Megan Stammers saying she had arrived in France after she is believed to have eloped with her maths teacher, it was disclosed tonight.

It marked the last contact since 15-year-old Megan and 30-year-old Jeremy Forrest caught a ferry to the Continent last week, sparking a cross-Channel search.

The message was sent to one of her good friends saying she was in France but did not come from her own phone, a senior police officer revealed.

I am assuming eloped means something different in the UK than in the US... Since this teacher is already married?
