The case went inactive until a few months ago, when Williams said developments in forensic technology could help identify the victim.

He said dental evidence that was re-analyzed recently leads investigators to think she was on the younger end of the age spectrum, perhaps just a teenager.

I couldn't find her on NamUS and there isn't a picture of the computer-generated facial reconstruction mentioned in the article. However, my time is sketchy cuz I'm at work and perhaps someone else will be more successful by checking The Doe Network or other places.

Namus has additional info:
Other items found
with body :Miscellaneous bones of a juvenile dog (puppy)

Super numerary UR molar posterior to #1
All teeth unrestored

Some teeth were lost postmortem.

DNA samples have been submitted but the tests are not complete (For Pete's sake... I know it costs money to test them but maybe she'd be identified by now if these things just got done...I don't think reconstructions are free either.)

Joe Brown Rd looks to be pretty accessible from a major highway.... I'm thinking she was from Alabama. Will start looking.

EDIT: The only two missing females from AL on or before 1975 are white. Nevermind.

From Namus
Healed rib fractures from previous injury; Fresh fractures with no healing on both pubic rami and both sides of ribs

New injuries on top of old injuries sorta make me wonder if she was a victim of repeated domestic violence and if she was she might not have been reported missing by the loved one(s) who beat her up.

The only other possibility is Alisa Watson:

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/14225/3

she was 15 in 1972, so 17 or 18 in 1975 depending on birthday. The height matches as does the weight. Alisa was a "troubled child" so she could have hitch hiked or ran away from home from Washington state...

And then there's Katrina Ashford:
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/9612/5

Involved in a prostitution ring, so very easy target. The height matches, though she was 19 when she disappeared in 1972, so she'd be 21-22 in 1975.

Emailed the ONLY listed email contact available for Maury County about the two aforementioned girls. We'll see.

Yeah I realized that after I went search crazy -_-; LOL

I think she was found early enough in 1975 that there weren't too many options that could be ruled out. But like I said, even just searching NAMUS I found ONLY 9 black women missing before 1975. Slim pickins.

Sometimes state and local LE and ME offices have more people on their missing sites, so maybe poking through sites in the LA/TX area would turn up some more possibles. Also newspaper archives.

OMG invaluable resource!!!!! I haven't delved into it but I can already tell it's going to be a HUGE help for African American cases!!!!

EDIT: they have ~20 cases only -_-;

A new article on this case, with some pictures of the skeletal remains and clothing at the link -

Woman's skeleton found in 1970s remains unidentified
Posted: Mar 16, 2014 1:20 PM GST Updated: March 16, 2014 08:24 AM

Investigators are still trying to identify a woman whose remains were discovered near Interstate 65 in Maury County in the mid-1970s.

Detective Jerry Williams said the remains were found near Highway 99 and Joe Brown Road by two hunters in February of 1975.

"We have reason to believe that she didn't die naturally," Det. Williams added.

The woman was found above ground, partially clothed.

Ila "Veronica Tucker" Maynard was 17 years old when she went missing from Greensboro NC. Just entered into December 2013.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/maynard_veronica.html

Age, race, and height match. DNA has been submitted but test have not been completed.

It is believed that her husband had something to do with her disappearance. Didn't see specifically where it was reported she was a victim of domestic violence this would be consistent with previously healed injuries.

Also looking at UID pants they look homemade to me. In the news story from this month her sister said she made all her kids clothes so she probably sewed for herself also.

What doesn't match is she went missing December 4, 1974.

Any thoughts?

Not seeing a ton of resemblance to the recon, but can't overlook the blue pants and platform vs. wedge shoes.

The healed fractures + the puppy, to me, really shout out that this was a domestic abuse situation of some kind... DNA has been run now. Hopefully if this poor young woman hasn't been reported yet, she will be.

If I overlook the afro of the uid and the long hair of Ila, I see a resemblance. With the pants and shoes I think its a possibility. I'll email the possibility to the detective.

This is where she was found, doesn't look like it was in the woods but alot couldve chganged in 40 years ofcourse, what makes me wonder is that nobody missed a teen/young woman gone missing, and those puppy bones found next to her is odd? if she was walking the dog and got hit somebody must have wondered what happened to her,
