    CA - Heather Carroll, 25, Hollister, 10 Oct 2012

Heather Alaina Carroll was last seen when she dropped her 5-year-old son off at Ladd Lane School in Hollister on Wednesday morning.

The usually responsible mother did not return to the school that afternoon to pick up her son, nor did she pick up two additional children whom she takes care of daily. Carroll was first reported missing by a family member at 5 p.m. Wednesday, police Chief David Westrick said.

Carroll's sport utility vehicle was found torched in an agricultural field near Enterprise Road and Glenview Drive in Hollister at 2:10 a.m. Thursday.

Jadian Fisch, 14, and his mother called 911 when they heard and saw the SUV ignite into a fireball outside their home.

Police say this case is serious and are asking for help from the Department of Justice and the FBI to help gather evidence to answer the question, what happened to Carroll?

Until then, friends and family will continue their search.

"We love her, we miss her and we want her home," said Chavez.

Until Friday, two days after a 25-year-old mother’s disappearance, police “haven’t had a really good geographic area for searches” in the case of missing Hollister resident Heather Carroll, said interim Police Chief David Westrick. But Westrick indicated Friday that investigators – including a search and rescue unit brought in from the sheriff’s office – had begun narrowing their efforts to specific locations.
Westrick would not release sensitive details in the case such as the location or locations of official searches, but did indicate investigators are honing in on leads.
“Until really today,” he said Friday, “we haven’t had a really good geographic area for searches. We have been trying to obtain that for the last two days.”
On Friday, police received help from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit. They are joined by authorities from the FBI, Department of Justice and other surrounding agencies in the effort to find Carroll, a mother who was reported missing Wednesday and was last seen dropping off her young boy at Ladd Lane School that morning.
Police became immediately concerned about her disappearance due to circumstances that “added up” – how she failed to pick up her child and others at the school, her routinely prompt nature, and calls to her cell phone that went unanswered, Westrick said.
“She’s a mom. She’s a daughter. She’s a wife. A lot of people care about her,” he said.
Adding to that concern was the discovery at 2:10 a.m. Thursday of Carroll’s sport utility vehicle, a tan Sequoia found engulfed in flames near Enterprise Road and Glenview Drive. The DOJ has done all of the forensics work so far, said Westrick, who is awaiting results. He would not confirm if investigators found any evidence in the vehicle, such as blood, pointing to a crime committed against Carroll.

Is there a man in her life?
The article above says she is a wife.
    Just my opinion, of course.

No, it sure doesn't. I wonder if her purse and cell phone were in her car when it burned? I have so many questions, like did neighbors see her at the home after dropping off her son? Why did a "family member" report her missing and not her husband? Maybe it's just bad reporting, but I see a stark contrast between what the husband says vs. her father. I'll reserve my judgement for now ...

Grady Carroll said his wife's sudden disappearance was like a "bad dream."
"It's been surreal," he told KSBW's May Chow on Friday.

The missing woman's father said, "I want her to keep hope and keep strength and keep on fighting. We want her to return, whoever has here, release her for us, for her little son. He needs to be home with mommy."

Hoping that Heather is found safe. Her little boy needs her.

police right this moment in a shootout with someone who could be connected to missing Heather Carroll:

Neighbors said Hollister police got into a shootout with a man barricaded inside a house on the 2100 block of Cerra Vista Drive in Hollister at 5 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses said they believe the man who fired multiple shots at police officers may be connected to the 25-year-old woman who went missing on Wednesday.

The house is surrounded by a SWAT team and is located across the street from Cerra Vista Elementary School.

This is a breaking news story and KSBW's May Chow is at the scene. Check back with KSBW.com for more information.
