Wednesday, a judge determined that there was enough evidence Joseph Fleming, 34, may have killed Jose Quintero, 31, in September 2012...

In court Wednesday, detectives described the condition they found Quintero in. They said his feet and hands were bound by a cord and that his body was locked inside a large tool box. Detectives believe Fleming put him there and set that box on fire in a rural Sarpy County field...

Quintero was last seen alive with Fleming and John Meyers, Fleming’s cousin... Fleming is charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. Meyers is similarly charged.

Quintero died from head and neck trauma after being beaten with a pipe in Fleming’s house, 5810 A St. in Omaha. Quintero also was stabbed. His body was put into a box, wire tied around the neck and a plastic bag over the head, then burned in a field about 2 miles west of the Nebraska Crossing Outlets mall.In court Tuesday, officials said Quintero was killed over a lost backpack full of methamphetamine.

In a plea bargain, Meyers pleaded no contest to the manslaughter charge. He had faced charges of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Fleming, too, pleaded no contest to a manslaughter charge. He is to be sentenced next week in the same courtroom.

Before his sentencing, Meyers apologized for his role in Quintero’s death and said he took responsibility for his actions
