TN - Police praise woman who escaped attacker
Murfreesboro police say a 19-year-old Murfreesboro woman, who was assaulted while walking to her car, did everything right while fleeing her attacker.
Lt. Alvin Baird said the woman ''did a good job.'' The incident occurred Saturday.
''Once she realized she was being assaulted she did everything she was supposed to do to get away from this guy,'' he said.
The attack was classified as a sexual assault, but the woman was not raped, police said.
The woman was approached just after 6 p.m., as she left the Kohl's department store after work Saturday night, according to police reports. An unidentified white man chased the woman to her car. After she'd opened her car door, he brandished a box cutter and demanded that she give him her underwear.
The woman informed the man she could not breathe because his hand was over her mouth, according to police. As he loosened his grip, she began to scream and grabbed the box cutter. She was able to close the car door and drive away with minor cuts and bruises.
