A real estate businessman was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, who has been missing since Wednesday.

Peter Gregory Chadwick, 48, is now being held on $1.5million bond for the alleged death of his 46-year-old wife, Quee Chadwick.

Police found signs of foul play at the couple’s house within a gated community in Newport Beach, but have not yet found the body. They also declined to say how they knew the stay-at-home mother was dead.

From the story at the link, I would surmise he was on his way to Mexico to escape whatever terrible thing occurred to his wife. He must have given them some indication that she is deceased, or they were able to determine that from the state of the home, which is gorgeous BTW. So so so sad for their 3 children, the oldest only 14. I hope she can be found to have the burial. I do not understand why perps, when LE has them dead to rights, do not disclose the location of the missing person. That has happened several times here recently, ongoing now in the murder of the coed in NH. Just give up the info that would mean EVERYTHING to the loved ones! In this case it is his own children FCOL!

Peter G. Chadwick has either fled or taken his own life, Senior Deputy District Attorney Matt Murphy told City News Service.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled in the case Wednesday at the Harbor Justice Center. The judge is expected to issue a warrant for the arrest of Chadwick, who was free on bail...

The couple were discussing a divorce at the time of her slaying. Murphy said investigators found blood and signs of a struggle in the Chadwicks’ Newport Coast home.

Murphy informed Gannon Jr. that Chadwick, who had been staying with his father in the Santa Barbara area while awaiting trial, was reported to be "despondent" by family members, raising fears he killed himself. "No one has heard from him in several days, including his children, which is unusual," Murphy said to a gathering of reporters that included Anderson after the hearing.

The prosecutor also raised the possibility that Chadwick skipped, although Newport Beach Police were holding his passport and other travel-related documents to prevent him from leaving the country...

As for the bail that had been put up by 101 Bail Bonds Inc., Gannon asked the attorneys from both sides to return to court Feb. 11 to discuss what to do about it. They are worried that a forfeiture of bail would hurt the Chadwick children more than anyone else. The judge could rule that the bail bonds company receive its deposit back, saving the rest of the money for the children who would inherit their father's estate, according to Murphy.

An Orange County judge has increased an arrest warrant to $5 million for a missing businessman accused of killing his wife at their Newport Coast home... If Chadwick is found alive, he would have to pay $5 million to avoid arrest for missing court dates.

Chadwick's lawyer, Robert Sanger, said that he hasn't spoken to his client since before a Jan. 28 hearing, in which a judge issued the original $1 million warrant.

In January 2015, Peter Chadwick, a millionaire real estate investor, was scheduled to appear in court on charges that he strangled his wife and dumped her body in a trash can in San Diego County.

But he never showed.

More than two years later, authorities continue to search for Chadwick and believe that he may be living abroad. In addition to a murder charge, he now faces a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, filed in late October.

I wonder if he left the Mexico book behind as a decoy. He is probably in Brazil or some island somewhere. Or even Switzerland.

Police release podcast to find a fugitive, but legal concerns abound

SEPTEMBER 27, 2018

"...While riding the popularity of other true crime podcasts, like Serial, which covered the murder conviction of Adnan Syed and led to a post-conviction appeal, this is a novel approach taken by a police department.

Some feel this medium runs the risk of creating legal issues for the prosecution, including violations to the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

The issue will come down to how the police handle public interaction with the podcast and the hunt for Chadwick, tweeted Elizabeth Joh, law professor at University of California at Davis School of Law and a podcaster herself...."
