    FL - Aiden Howard, 2, Bradford, 17 Oct 2012

This was breaking news yesterday afternoon of the child missing. It breaks my heart and I can't imagine drowning for one but in a septic hole.

Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said the death of the toddler does appear to be an accident that resulted in him drowning, but Smith said it was an accident that could have been avoided.

"These types of situations are totally inexcusable because somebody was too sorry, too lazy or negligent to cover a whole in a septic tank and apparently had been unclosed for some period of time," Smith said.

Can't understand how 3-adults in a home, someone can't keep an eye on a 2year old.

"The investigation is still ongoing. But rest assured that if we can charge somebody, we're going to charge somebody," Smith said. "Because this was something that could have been avoided, something as simple as covering up a hole on a septic tank. There's no excuse for that. That's just laziness or sorry-ness or just unacceptable. Very negligent. We take that very serious. No excuse. We've lost the life of a young child that could have been prevented."

Such a tragedy that should never have occurred. Who was watching this little boy? I never took my eyes of of both my son's at that age. How could this happen, and why didn't the parents put a lid on the septic tank!

Did the article say where the septic tank was located...on whose property? Was it the family's or a neighbor? Who was watching the child?

    Tragic!

I would be willing to bet a whole lot that they are renters and there is a landlord in deep doo foo over this!

Here's what boggles my mind - you know you have a toddler, and you know your septic tank is uncovered. If the smell alone doesn't make you cover the tank, surely the fact that your child could fall in would. I just can't wrap my brain around some things. Such a senseless and tragic death.
I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.

if rental property yes, sadly the landlord will probably be sued by these parents. The parents will likely shift all blame to that evil landlord who had an unsecured open septic with not a thought to the fact that they choose to ignore that danger and allow their toddler to roam unsupervised.
