Catherine Gowing: Murder arrest over missing vet

Thankyou for starting this discussion. I live in North Wales, and can't believe i only heard about this today on the Welsh News. I've looked for local updates on this story but there is no new information that isn't already mentioned in the above link. I wonder who they have in custody? I'm really hoping Catherine is found soon.

I came across the story looking for updates on April Jones. It is a terrible business.

Not much - if anything - new here but a long article (with the usual editing shambles Mail's readers have come to know):

Half a text then nothing: Sister weeps as police reveal final message from missing vet (Daily Mail)
---
David Evans, owner of the veterinary practice where Ms Gowing has been based for 18 months, said staff became worried after receiving the text at the weekend.

'One of the nurses was concerned about her on Saturday or Sunday because she had half a message from her, from her mobile phone anyway,' Mr Evans said.

'We thought, since her car was missing, we thought maybe she had gone somewhere for the weekend or got into some difficulty or something like that.'
---
I wonder what that half a text message said.

Thank you OP, I tried to start this but I don't think I have enough posts to start a thread. Here's another link

Irish Independent

Police now say the last known sighting of the 37-year-old was at an Asda supermarket in Queensferry last Friday evening.

They say Ms Gowing entered the supermarket shortly after 8pm and left at 8.40pm.

Detectives said she was alone at the time.

Police said she was wearing blue jeans, a light brown khaki fleece zipped top, and plain black flat shoes. Her hair was tied up.

She was carrying a plastic Asda bag and a pizza-type box.

Officers said a forensic examination continues at her home this afternoon.

Detectives confirmed that co-ordinated searches are taking place at various locations in an attempt to find Catherine, her car - a plum burgundy coloured Renault Clio, 00D99970 - and personal items that are missing from her home.

They also confirmed that they are examining CCTV in the area.

Catherine Gowing, who is originally from Co Offaly, has been living near Mold, Flintshire, for the past few years.

Her mobile sent half a message to a nurse who worked with her at the Evans Veterinary Practice in the town of Mold some time after she went missing.

Thanks Perplexed 123, and welcome to posting at WS.

I too saw this on the April Jones thread. So sad.

It seems the suspect was known to Catherine.

"Mr Hanson said initial inquiries resulted in the identification of a 46-year-old Gwynedd man who "frequents the New Brighton area and is known to Catherine". "

Her uncle added: ‘She is two years working as a vet. She loved it and loved living in Wales. But her real passion was farming.

‘She was going to come back here at Christmas and most likely take over the family farm. She loved nature and farming. She was a very independent minded woman. Everyone speaks highly of her.’
Hm. Interesting - she was possibly leaving Wales in a couple months and, possibly, that possibility might not have set well with someone.

About bloody time they found the car, if it is Catherine's. Just 2 miles from her home?

Can't help wondering if the fact 150 officers are involved in search for April Jones has left the Catherine Gowing investigation threadbare.

Superintendent Ian John said he could not rule out the ongoing search for April would extend into 2013.

"We said goodbye to 150 officers this morning and they've been replaced by another 150 specialists," he said, speaking from Machynlleth.

Very, very scary. Have the contents of her last text message not been released? And have they released how this male suspect is known to her?

It's really not looking good if her car has been found burnt out. Hoping they find her soon.

Police have confirmed it is a five-door Renault Clio, but cannot confirm it is Ms Gowing’s vehicle.

“The area has been cordoned off and forensically secured and an examination of the vehicle and immediate area continues to establish the vehicle’s true identity and secure any evidence which may assist us find Catherine,” Detective Superintendent John Hanson said.

“Once this is confirmed a further statement will be released.

“The location of this vehicle’s discovery is approximately two miles from Catherine’s home in New Brighton. Catherine is still missing and her last known sighting is at 8.39pm on Friday October 12, 2012, when she was seen on CCTV leaving Asda Supermarket in Queensferry.
