WI - Three killed, 4 injured in Azana Spa shooting, Brookfield, 21 Oct 2012

It looks like it was a domestic violence situation; a woman who works there recently obtained a domestic violence injunction against the shooter.

If you go to jsonline, there are a few more reports. I grew up near Brookfield. When I first heard about this while at work today, I freaked out just a bit--my mom is a regular shopper at the mall that this happened by.

It all sounds to be a domestic situation gone horribly wrong based on the information in the news. Very sad that this man didn't consider their kids before taking the life of his estranged wife or himself.

One of my friends sent me a link to the shooters FB page. It is rather creepy and he sounds desperate in his posts the days prior to the shooting.

This made me smile a little--folks from the Sikh temple, where there was a shooting a few months ago, are reaching out to family members of those affected by the Brookfield shooting. It sounds weird, but I think that it's wonderful that folks who experienced such a tragedy themselves can turn that experience into something positive by reaching out to others.

This is a long article, well worth a read. One of the first things I did when I heard about this case was look up the shooter on CCAP (Wisconsin's on-line court records system: http://wcca.wicourts.gov/index.xsl ). But this article details a number of police contacts, including one or two that seem like they were completely flubbed. It will be interesting (in a sad sort of way) to see what else comes to light (I first read this story this morning, much more has been added throughout the day).

This is 10 minutes from my home..
So sad he has children and did not think of them

No word yet if his wife died in the attack.

Sad he spoke w/ his dad the night before and he begged him to come to FL
and not do something stupid.

Blessings to the victims.

Another article. Apparently Zina, the victim who was the wife of the shooter, confronted him when he came in and tried to defuse the situation. My god, can you imagine how terrified she must have been--but she still calmly try to stop it.

"She talked very low, very calm," Brunner said. "She said, 'This is a peaceful place. These are good people. What can we do for you, sir? What do you want?' "

"There was no pleading. She was very methodical. Very calm. Very professional. She didn't seem hurried; she looked in charge. She looked like a protector, taking care of the situation, trying to de-escalate things. She was trying to handle it."

But Radcliffe Haughton grabbed his wife by the shoulder and pulled her toward the pedicure station behind a half wall, Brunner said.

I found out yesterday one of the other victims that was killed went to my high school :(. She was two years ahead of me--I don't think I ever knew her, but it makes it hit that much closer to home for me. Some of my high school friends that I'm touch with via facebook were friends with her (and other folks who worked there) and it's been a sad couple of days.
