Sheriff's deputies in Cabell County say human skeletal remains were found off Wire Branch Road in Ona. A family called police after making the unexpected uncovering.

...

It's unclear how long the remains have been there, but investigators suspect quite some time.

Sheriff Tom McComas tells WSAZ.com no missing people have been reported recently. However, they're treating this like a worst-case scenario, even calling in FBI investigators.

When I did investigations for the Census Bureau, their employees told me there were spots so rural and inaccessible in W. Virginia that they sometimes had to ride mules or ATV's to access some "homes."

This is close to where I used to live in WV, and Ona isn't that rural. on outskirts of Huntington.

I did some searching online, and I am pretty confident that the body is the same as the driver's license. I don't want to post details here as they are against WS policy, but all signs point to it being him.

McComas said investigators have reached out to Rigdon's family. They were unsure of his whereabouts and as to why his identification would have been found in proximity to the human remains.

The sheriff confirmed that others lived at Rigdon's listed address in Ona. He declined comment when asked to disclose a specific address and the relationship those living at the residence had with Rigdon.

"We in law enforcement as well would wonder why somebody didn't report him missing, if in fact he is missing," McComas said. "Based upon some information we have obtained, he potentially had lived at another location or two. That's why we're not being specific."

"Both fortunately and unfortunately, that situation was an education for our staff on how to deal with skeletal remains of that nature," McComas said. "Right now, it is too early to say even if this person is from this area due to the proximity to the river, but we are moving forward with our part of the investigation."

From your link, summer. Did someone have the skull on his desk :waitasec: That is such a strange statement...

So hang on, they've found a second body in the area, or the skull goes with the remains? And if they have a potential name, why haven't they done DNA?

I'm thinking that there is a second set of remains. The ones found in November on someone's property and a skull found recently by a rabbit hunter..
