FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Three women and an 18-month-old boy are slain in Tennessee, but an infant and toddler are spared. A man wanted for questioning in the homicides is found dead in the Alabama woods, while one of his presumed acquaintances is found shot to death.

The discovery of six bodies in two states Monday and Tuesday presents a puzzling case for authorities as they began searching for clues to confirm that the deaths were somehow linked..................

The 3-year-old's father, Warren Vincent Crutcher, was found dead in the Alabama woods, just across the Tennessee state line, police said. They did not reveal the cause of death for him, the women or the dead child. Madison County, Alabama, Coroner Craig Whisenant did say that it appeared Crutcher's death wasn't a suicide.

Jeffrey Pope, who was identified by local news media as an acquaintance of Crutcher, was fatally shot in Huntsville, police said. Authorities did not confirm the connection between the two men, but they are investigating whether Pope's death could be linked to the other five, Whisenant said. His body was found in the woods by utility crews, WAFF reported.

No suspect yet in 6 deaths in Tennessee, Alabama

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee and Alabama investigators are working together to try to identify a suspect in a series of killings that left six people dead in the two states.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said Wednesday that investigators are following evidence from four crime scenes that they hope will lead to an arrest or allow them to issue an alert to the public for a suspect.

Helm said the investigation has found that one of those who died, Warren Vincent Crutcher, knew the other victims.

Three women and a toddler were killed at two homes in Fayetteville while Pope and Crutcher were found dead in Madison County, Ala.

Helm said Crutcher had former or current relationships with the three women and was an acquaintance of the other male victim. She said all of those cases are homicides.

.........Dozens of law enforcement personnel in Tennessee and Alabama have been working long hours over the past three days to identify a suspect in the deaths of three women and a toddler near Fayetteville and the deaths of two men in Alabama. The bodies of the women and child were found Monday. The bodies of the men were found the following day.

The killings come just three years after six people, including a family in Tennessee and a man in Alabama, were slain near the same border town.........

In the 2009 case, sheriff's deputies found 38-year-old Traci Shaffer, her son, Devin Brooks, and neighbor Robert Berber, both 16, dead in their home. The bodies of Traci Shaffer's brother, Chris Hall, 34, and father Billy Hall, 57, were found in a home across the road. ..............

"Unfortunately we have the distinction of having two multiple homicides and it takes a huge toll on the personnel," he said. "It takes a toll on their personal lives and it takes a toll on the resources that we have."

He said the investigators are working just as diligently as they did three years again to solve the latest killings. And he tried to assure residents that they shouldn't be afraid.

"I don't feel like the residents of Lincoln or Madison counties, either one, should be concerned with their safety, because this was not a random act," he said.

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Tennessee and Alabama assured the public that a serial killer was not on the loose when they revealed that two suspects in a string of slayings on the state line have been in custody for months.

Lincoln County Sheriff Murray Blackwelder said Friday that the individuals, who were not named, have been custody since October on unrelated charges. They remain in the Madison County jail in Alabama.............short article.....

Just a day after Zakkawanda Moss was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences, 360 years, Henry Burrell stood before the court in Lincoln County Wednesday, pleading guilty to six counts of first-degree premeditated murder and agreeing to a sentence of 120 years.

That deal will keep Burrell in prison long enough for him to never again see the light of day as a free man and avoids a trial similar to the one faced by Moss last November &#8211; that trial ended with a jury returning six first-degree murder convictions in the deaths of six in Lincoln County in October of 2012.

The murder victims include 23-year-old Chabreya Campbell and her seven-month-old fetus, Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards), 16-month-old Rashad Obrian Ragland, 21-year-old Amber McCauley, 22-year-old Jessica Brown, and 24-year-old Warren Crutcher.
