CA - Raymond Hockaday, 52, San Luis Obispo, 31 October 2012 - *AT RISK*

San Luis Obispo Man Goes Missing From Mental Health Facility

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The search is on for an at-risk man missing from his care facility in San Luis Obispo.

Police say he suffers from a mental illness and left his medication behind.

52 year-old Raymond John Hockaday left his home on Halloween for his daily morning walk but never came back.

Police say this is not the first time Hockaday up and left without warning.

"Several years ago, I believe he is from San Diego, and when he made his way to San Luis Obispo, I don't think he told anybody where he was going or what he was doing," says Detective Trevor Shalhoob of the San Luis Obispo Police.

Hockaday left his home on the 1500 block of Osos Street which is a voluntary, confidential facility for mentally ill patients.

Facility staff wouldn't go on camera but say they think Hockaday left town.

They say Hockaday called them a few hours ago saying he was ok but was never coming back.

I believe he may have lived in Poway
and I believe he may have lost 2 grown children , together, in a car accident in July 2011-
I don not know if something like that may have contributed to the situation and why he was in such a facility

He may have 2 brothers and a sister
He may have 4 living children
There may be family members in the Butte Montana area, or Hamilton Montana

    *****
    found this-
They say he was last seen wearing a black leather fanny pack, black jacket, brown pants and gray tennis shoes.

    bless his heart

Does California not do alerts for people at risk such as he???

I noticed that there is an Amtrak station only a couple of blocks SE of the 1500 block of Osos St.
Also it looks to be around a 1/2 mile NW to the 101, which goes toward LA and the 5 goes to San Diego, as far as main routes That is app. a 5 hour trip.

I think I shall call that detective tomorrow and see what the actual status of this gentleman actually is

That would be great if you called the detective. I'm very familiar with that station, but right across the tracks is a homeless population in a very sleepy neighborhood and a great restaurant only known to the locals.

The Coast Starlight is a popular West Coast train.

Lt. John Bledsoe of the San Luis Obispo
Police Department just called me back.

He checked the files, and I am happy to report that Mr. Hockaday was located Dec 16, 2012

Apparently there was no follow up press release stating this, so I don't know if the mods will accept my speaking with Lt. Bledsoe to mark Mr. Hockaday as located.

That's wonderful news! Thanks so much for calling.

I'm sure you meant 2012 if you read this in time to make the correction.
