LA - Brian Hatfield, 21, Baton Rouge, 9 May 2004

I've never started a thread before so I hope I am doing this correctly. I searched and couldn't find a thread for Brian Hatfield, who was last seen in Baton Rouge on 5/9/2004. He was 21 when he went missing.

Brian was returning to Baton Rouge from Lafayette. He dropped off some friends at their homes. The last place he is known to have been alive is one of these homes where he dropped off a friend - Geronimo St in Baton Rouge.

"His car was found three weeks later, on May 21, in the parking lot of a Chevron gas station in Baton Rouge. Its license plate was missing and there was no sign of Hatfield or any struggle at the scene. Hatfield's checks and check card have been used since his disappearance, and investigators pulled over an individual who had Hatfield's license plate on his car." (http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...eld_brian.html)

He is a cross-dresser and was dressed in women's clothing when he disappeared. I wish we knew more of what this meant- better description of the clothes as well as whether or not he'd be wearing a wig. It would also be helpful to have a pic of him dressed as a woman, but I haven't been able to find one.

Brian was 5'8" and 120lbs at the time he went missing.

    Where are you, Brian?

This article on Brian's disappearance was published in the Advocate, I think, in 2004. I was only able to pull it from a Yahoo! Group digest (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/T...s/topics/10928) comment.

    Months later, disappearances mystify families

    By HEATH DRUZIN

On some sleepless nights, Melvin Parker drives the streets of Baton Rouge,
    through unfamiliar neighborhoods, searching.

Parker knows whom he is looking for but not where to find him, and he often
drives for hours in no particular direction.

Jeremiah Jamal Parker Five months ago, Parker's 20-year-old son, Jeremiah
Jamal Parker, disappeared from a crowded Baton Rouge park and has not been
    heard from since.

    ...

One month after Jeremiah Parker disappeared, another young Baton Rouge man was reported missing. Brian Hatfield, 21, was due home from Lafayette on May 9, but never showed up after dropping off a friend on Geronimo Street that morning.

While their cases are very different and apparently unrelated, both have
confounded investigators and left two families wondering what happened.

"It's very, very unusual to have not one, but two missing person cases go
unresolved for this amount of time," police spokesman Cpl. Don Kelly said.

Kelly said that, while police are not ruling out anything, Hatfield was
likely a victim of foul play.

Early on the morning of May 9, Hatfield was returning from Lafayette with
two friends, Kelly said. He dropped off both friends, the last one in the
3800 block of Geronimo Street. Hatfield has not been seen since.

Brian Hatfield Hatfield's car was found May 21 in the parking lot of a
Chevron gas station on Scenic Highway with its license plate missing.

Although there was no obvious sign of struggle in the car, Hatfield's checks
and check card have been used and police pulled over someone who had
Hatfield's license plate on his car, Kelly said.

"These are indicators that don't necessarily bode well (for Hatfield),"
    Kelly said.

Hatfield cross-dressed and was last seen in women's clothing, but Kelly said
it is unclear whether that was a factor in his disappearance.

"We can't rule out anything right now," Kelly said.

Hatfield's mother, Ruth Hatfield, said her son was the manager of an O'Neal
Lane Racetrac gas station and was preparing to move to Atlanta when he
    disappeared.

"For me it's just a living nightmare not knowing if he's dead or alive,"
Ruth Hatfield said. "The telephone rings, and I think it's him."

    ...

Brian Hatfield is a black man, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 120 pounds. He was
last seen on May 9, 2004, in the 3800 block of Geronimo Street. He was
    dressed in women's clothing.

Anyone with any information about either case is asked to call the Missing
Person Division at (225) 389-3844 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

My heart breaks for Brian's dad.

According to the articles above and Charley Project, the last place Brian dropped off a friend was the 3800 block Geronimo St.

This area of BR has a lot of violent crime.

In February of 2013, the body of someone who had been shot dead was found in the 3800 block of Geronimo St. (this obviously was NOT Brian, the body was found after a shooting and the person likely died that day in Feb '13- I'm just linking the article to give an idea of the violent crime problems in the area).

Wish we had more information about the person who was driving the car w/ his license plate on it. Also, I wonder what information they were able to gather, if anything, about the uses of his checks and check card. You'd think there would be something from that.
