NEW YORK (AP) — The puppeteer who performs as Elmo on "Sesame Street" is taking a leave of absence from the popular kids' show in the wake of allegations that he had a relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

Sesame Workshop said puppeteer Kevin Clash denies the charges, which were first made in June by the alleged partner, who by then was 23.

This story confuses me.
"I had a relationship with (the accuser)," Clash told TMZ. "It was between two consenting adults and I am deeply saddened that he is trying to make it into something it was not."
...so did he have a relationship when the guy was 16 and he was 45 or is it a more recent relationship?

If it happened when the guy was 16 then I guess it depends upon what state it happened in to know if he broke any laws or not...

No! Say it ain't so, Elmo!!!:please::please::please:

I've always liked Kevin Clash, and thinking of the joy and learning experiences he brings so many children, I really hope it isn't true.

It sounds like, from his response, that he admits a relationship when the man was of legal age? :waitasec: if this is the case, then it really is none of our business. But it sounds like everything is being handled properly - he is on leave, the accusation is being investigated, etc. more organizations should take a lesson from them!

The man is now saying his sexual relationship with Clash was adult and consensual.

In response to the statement Tuesday afternoon, Clash issued a statement of his own, saying he is "relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest."

Long live Kevin Clash.

Yes, is this accuser being charged? If not then some people are going to think that the accusation was true and the guy was just bought off.

This is sounding like the Michael Jackson allegations, now, with the "settlements."

A man who alleged he was 16 when he started a relationship with the puppeteer who provides the voice of Elmo on "Sesame Street" now says it was an "adult consensual relationship," according to his lawyers.

The man, now 23, had told Sesame Workshop in June that he started a relationship with Kevin Clash as a teenager, according to the workshop. The workshop announced on Monday that a thorough investigation found "the allegation of underage conduct to be unsubstantiated."

The big question will be how old was he at the time??? For example, 18 is still technically a "teenager", but at the same time legally an adult to vote or join the military.

Sheldon Stephens Is the Man Who Tried to Take Down Elmo (Gawker)
---
Clash insisted throughout the ordeal that the relationship occurred after Stephens had turned 18.

Stephens is a 24-year-old "model/actor" who lives in Pennsylvania and was previously arrested for robbing $250,000 in jewelry from a music manager at knife point.
---
TMZ reports that just before Stephens recanted, his attorneys were discussing a six-figure settlement with Clash's lawyer, although it's not clear if those talks were what prompted Stephens to admit his deception.

"Oh, Elmo likes that. Oooh. Elmo REALLY likes that."

Yes... I totally heard this in my head.

My daughter has a friend that does that... I'll never forget sitting in Orlando Intl and about choking on my gum, laughing, when her sister threatened to beat her tail if she didn't stop talking in third person, IN third person. Darn near brought me to tears.

Kevin Clash has resigned and second accuser comes forward demanding 5 million.

TMZ also has a story about the first accuser who says he was pressured into recanting and insists that it really did happen and he wants to undo the settlement.

I have a friend who has a daughter when she was younger use to do the 3rd person thing.

I picked up on one of her sayings, when people at work come to my office and say my name I say " She not here!" . LOL

Elmo was my favorite Sesame Street guy! I always thought Elmo was a female puppetier. Not sure why I thought that.
