The millionaire software genius behind the McAfee antivirus programs is wanted for murder in Belize -- this according to reports.

According to Gizmodo.com, Belize police claim John McAfee is the prime suspect in the shooting death of an American expatriate named Gregory Faull.

Faull was reportedly gunned down at his home in San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye on Saturday -- after an argument with McAfee had turned deadly.

WOW.

Always knew his AV software sucked, but didn't figure him for a murderer.

Gizmodo published an official police statement issued Monday that said the body of the well-liked 52-year-old builder from California was found in a pool of blood from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The San Pedro Sun confirmed that police were looking for McAfee in connection with Faull's death. Vidal told the newspaper that officers searching McAfee's home next door found no one there.

Jeff Wise, writing for Gizmodo, reported that McAfee and Faull had been "at odds for some time."

From the article:

3:50PM EST November 12. 2012 - John McAfee, the eccentric 67-year-old founder of the antivirus software company McAfee, Inc., is wanted for murder in Belize, Gizmodo reported Monday, citing Belize officials.

Gizmodo quoted Marco Vidal, the head of the national police force's Gang Suppression unit, as saying McAFee is the prime suspect in the murder of an American expatriate, Gregory Faull, who was shot and killed Saturday night at his home on the island of Ambergris Caye.

The 52-year-old Faull was found by the housekeeper on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 11, lying face up in a pool of blood with an apparent gunshot wound on the upper rear part of his head, according to a police report posted on Gizmodo.
McAfee’s life has turned in recent years from cybersecurity to drugs, guns, prostitution and violence, explained Jeff Wise, a freelance reporter who broke the story for Gizmodo. "He will tell you he moved to Belize for the good life, for the country, to rescue the Belizean people from poverty,” Wise told FoxNews.com. In reality, McAfee became embroiled in bath salts and the quest for the ultimate high, he said.

Such a common thread these days. Sigh.

McAfee, who has been liquidating his real estate holdings over recent years has made the Central American country home, is no stranger to the local press. After the GSU descended on his compound, discovering McAfee with a 17-year-old girl, a chemical lab and a cache of small arms, McAfee started a public relations campaign, making a “lavish” donation of stun guns and handcuffs and pepper spay to the cops, says 7 News Belize,

######

7 News Belize editors are similarly skeptical of McAfee, noting that Gizmodo writer Jeff Wise wrote he ”became convinced (that McAfee) was a compulsive liar if not an outright psychopath” in their published report of the donation.

McAfee’s motive for allegedly killing Faull, a popular builder originally from California, is unclear, but just last week Faull filed a formal complaint with the mayor’s office against McAfee because the antivirus king wildly fired guns off and exhibited “roguish behavior.”

#####

McAfee and some of his friends moved into a compound on Ambergris Caye, in Belize.

There McAfee and a partner claimed to be studying jungle herbs including one which they said boosted the female libido.

However, McAfee's jungle herb studies floundered in 2010 whereupon he allegedly started posting on a Russian drug message board called Bluelight under the pseudonym “Stuffmonger” about his attempts to purify the drug MDPV.

Here's the rather histrionically headlined Daily Mail account from 28 May 2012:

Faull was last seen alive around 10:00pm on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Faull lived alone and there were no signs of forced entry. There were two missing objects in the house, one laptop computer brand and serial number unknown and (1) I-Phone. The body of Faull was found in the hall of the upper flat of the house. A single luger brand 9 mm expended shells was found at the first stairs leading up to the upper flat of the building.

Sounds like he had been headed for trouble for quite awhile. Sad.

From the above link, McAfee spokeswoman Kim Eichorn told FoxNews.com the company doesn’t comment on former employees, and that McAfee is no longer associated with the company that bears his name.

I wonder how this will impact the McAfee brand. Sounds like the company is already trying to distance itself.

Not that that really matters. A man is dead and I just hope they find McAfee if he's the one who did it!!

The prison in Belize (yes only one) is a very unpleasant place though if he doesn't get killed he can probably bribe the guards for better conditions and more drugs.

Sheesh with all of his money why in the heck would he use bath salts? He could afford the finest illegal drugs in the world.

Proof that money can't buy happiness. I'd rather be destitute my whole life than to end up like this dude.

That was my first thought too when I read about the bath salts. Maybe not though. Sounds like he had blown through quite a lot of his fortune, if not all.
