ANCHORAGE--- Where is 34-year-old Mary Anne Alexie? That's the question family and loved ones are wrestling with this holiday season. While others are running around picking up food for their upcoming Thanksgiving feast, the Alexies have spent the last 40 days searching for the woman who means so much to them.

One case that police are currently very concerned with is the disappearance of Fairbanks woman Mary Anne Alexie, 34, who was visiting Anchorage to attend the Alaska Career College. She last spoke with friends by phone on Oct. 10, telling them she was in Spenard and didn’t know where to go.

“Her disappearance is just a mystery at this point,” Parker said. “We’re continuing to actively pursue that case and follow up on every lead.”

Mary Anne Alexie is still missing after three years.

This article is about the vigil that was held for her last year:

Sadly, her brother committed suicide last December.

He was deeply affected by Mary Ann’s still-unsolved disappearance, and harbored anger toward law enforcement authorities he felt weren’t doing enough to find her, Guynes said.

“He was pretty angry. They wouldn’t give us no answers, to this day,” she said. “It had a great impact on him.”

Still, news of his suicide came as a total shock, she said.

“Other than missing my sister, he never showed or expressed any signs that he wanted to hurt himself.”

The disappearance of Mary Anne Alexie - Alaska Unsilenced

According to friends, Mary Anne Alexie (also known as Mary Jane) was in Anchorage on October 9, 2012 to take the first step toward a new life by beginning EMT training at Alaska Career College. Alexie, a mother of four, was seeking a better life for her family, but at 3 a.m. on October 10, she placed a troubling call: The 32-year-old Alaska Native was somewhere in the Spenard area, and she didn’t know exactly where.

After that call, Mary Anne Alexie’s family never heard from her again.

For us, the only differences in the people we write about are the particulars of their cases. Race and socio-economic class do not matter one bit, because every single life is precious. We have been charged to love our neighbors just as we would love ourselves, and there are no exceptions or exemptions to that rule for race, sex or creed. People of every station struggle with addiction, and there are numerous things that can make a person weak and vulnerable to predators. It’s time we fight the real enemy–people who see weakness as an invitation to exploit others instead of an opportunity to help. Only then can we begin to bring healing to families like Mary Anne Alexie’s, people who love her and wish for her safe return every day.

Sending prayers of hope, strength and comfort to Mary Anne's sister, Josie, and all who love Mary Anne and greatly miss this beautiful young woman.

I hope with all of my heart that Mary Anne can be found.

Mentioned in this article from Dec 2020.

The mother of four had traveled from Fairbanks to Anchorage to attend school. Within a day of her arrival, she vanished.

“We know that at one point she contacted family members, she contacted friends and then she stopped making calls,” Sgt. Slawomir Markowicz with the Anchorage Police Department said in 2012, after Mary Anne Alexie’s disappearance.

According to police, on Oct. 10, 2012, Mary Anne Alexie called a friend late at night. She sounded intoxicated, lost and in need of a place to stay the night.
