F-22 Fighter Crashes at Tyndall Air Force Base

    http://www.wmbb.com/story/20111433/b...air-force-base

This is near my beach.... The end of the drone runway is only a couple hundred yards off US-98 & trees have been removed all the way to the highway. We were over there last week & I remarked how "visible" the new runway is now. Operations on the base are mostly hidden behind a screen of trees & vegetation.

My friend was driving through Tyndall when he saw a flash, then smoke. All traffic on the road halted & people were getting out to watch. How frightening to see a plane fall out of the sky! The pilot had ejected & floated down amonst them. According to the article. he's ok.

This is my town.. glad the pilot is OK. The F-22s fly over our house daily. We love the sound of freedom.

    hey neighbor!

I have always enjoyed being on the beach & entertained by the USAF. I have been freaked out many times when they are very low & we see them go by & THEN comes the sound. Sudden. Loud. We see all sorts of maneuvers from our "backyard".

Lockheed Martin claims that the Raptor's combination of stealth, speed, agility, precision and situational awareness, combined with air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities, makes it the best overall fighter in the world today.

The Raptor is an amazing fighter aircraft, something you want on your side in case of war.

I've been in a F22 simulator and exhibit at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah as part of a news crew. I learned allot about it maybe I shouldn't know like how far away it can down enemy aircraft, it is impressive.

Glad the pilot got out safely.

Oh the trees..one time I worked on a base near Cherry Point N.C. for training pilots for short airfield support in preparation for landing and taking off on aircraft carriers. We had trees that were problematic on some takeoffs launched by a sled. Sometimes the pilots had to engage afterburners during take-off to clear the tree line at the end of the runway. I wonder if the trees were removed for that kind of issue. We had a few clip the tops of trees who were launched.
