Police in Bentonville say a 6-year-old girl reported missing early Tuesday has been found dead.
Authorities have released few details about the case but say they're investigating the girl's death as a homicide.
Police Chief Jon Simpson said the girl was reported missing from a home on Southeast A Street at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police say the child's body was found later Tuesday morning during a neighborhood search.

Police have roped off a home on Southeast A Street near the Bentonville Public Library.

A portion of Southeast 7th Street has been shut down and traffic is backed up.

No other information or details have been released. Police said no arrests have been made.

Police have not confirmed where the body was found. Reporters on the scene said the coroner walked into a home at SE A Street, nearly 25 yards from where the girl was reported missing.

40/29 News has crews reporting at the scene. Refresh this page for updates.

lots of pictures at the above link

After combing the neighborhood, the child's body was found. Police tell KNWA that all available personnel are on hand in this investigation. They say there are "several residents of interest" who are being investigated on the street. Benton County Deputy prosecutor worked with detectives and law enforcement on the scene. Along with the home the child went missing from, at least three other neighboring homes are blocked with police tape.

Police confirm the 6-year-old was a student in the Bentonville school district

I really do seem to be easily confused these days. They say she was found a few blocks from where she disappeared, and they say the body was removed from a home 2 doors down. Was one of the statements wrong or am I reading things wrong?

I think the media is just getting things "straight" right now as things are developing and it also, looking at the pictures, seems that they are keeping everyone pretty far back from the scene.

Thanks. I guess there is a tendency to get things messed up in the beginning when they're trying to hurry to get a story out. I suppose it's better than not knowing anything until they're 100% sure of all the facts.

Yes, things always seem to change as the story develops... that is why a lot of times I will go back and snip the piece of the article that has changed when posting an update..

I have been looking around trying to see if I can find any articles on when she went missing but cannot seem to find anything... it seems that it happened very quickly re: reported missing and found

reported missing at 6:45 a.m. Not a lot of details to go on as yet but . . .

Gonna go out on a limb and guess she went missing while the household slept and was discovered missing when the rest of the household awoke.

Found within immediate area and a neighborhood home sealed off and coroner's presence makes me think intruder/kidnap by someone who had been eyeing her in the neighborhood.

Will be watching with interest for more details to come out on this one.

In re: the media, in particular in NW Arkansas, oy vey. There's not a single "go to" media source there as the newspapers are, to put it charitably, not up to par, and relying on TV journalism is - again charitably - a mixed blessing. I've lived there, and around there, most of my life. Media not their strong suit.

OMG!

That happened just a couple of blocks from Walmart's headquarters. There are lots and lots of people from all over the world visiting there all the time. On the other hand, it kind of looks like it might be a local.

I'm not living there now, but this is my home town.

I was just there last week, and I mean right there within sight of where this happened. It's one of the least expensive areas of Bentonville, but not at all a place where you would expect crime.

You are so right! I generally go to the web site of Channel 5 in Fayetteville for news of the area. http://5newsonline.com/

The department received a call at 6:43 a.m of a child missing from her home at 608 S.E. A St., according to the release from Police Chief Jon Simpson said.
The home, valued at $46,049, is owned by William Wallace and Supha Xayprasith of Brooklyn, N.Y., records show.
A neighborhood search resulted in the body being discovered, the release states. The girl was located within minutes, according to police.
The Benton County coroner arrived at the house where the child was reported missing at about 10 a.m. and was later seen bringing a body out of a home two doors down, according to 5NEWS reporter Allison Woods, who was on the scene.
The house at 704 S.E. A St., near where the girl’s body was found, is also owned by Wallace and Xayprasith, but the property is apparently abandoned, officials said.

wonder if this is a landlord type situation vs the name of the family since the other article says they just moved there?

What are we allowed to post re registered sex offenders? I've found one who lives 300 yards away, and he's registered for sexual solicitation of a child.
