Family Seeks More Answers in Disappearance of Man From Cruise Ship

A Caribbean cruise departing from Fort Lauderdale can be an ideal getaway. Tina and Jason Rappe flew in from Oregon for a weeklong vacation on board Holland America's Eurodam right after Thanksgiving.

"They were just having a blast and one night they were hanging out at one of the bars. He got up apparently to go to the restroom, we don't know," said Eric Rappe, Jason's brother.

Surveillance video was given to family members by Holland America. It clearly shows Rappe walking on Deck 10. The next camera angle is about 100 yards away, according to Forsberg.

"What you see on the second camera appears to be a dark figure, which we can presume is Mr. Rappe, and it appears that that figure goes up on the railing and then overboard," Forsberg said .

Major Cruise Lines Begin Posting Crime Stats

Three major cruise lines have started posting quarterly crime statistics on their own web sites.

The underreporting of cruise ship crimes had been the subject of a congressional hearing and a recent Team 6 investigation, "Missing at Sea.”

In May NBC 6 reported on the disappearance of Jason Rappe. During a Caribbean cruise in November he went overboard. By law the U.S. Coast Guard must post on its web site cruise ship crimes and missing persons. Frappe’s disappearance was not posted and his case is not the only one because of a gap in the law.

"Only cases that are reported to the FBI and then closed by the FBI have to be disclosed on that database," said Jim Walker, a maritime attorney.

Me too! I heard a theory once about a possible serial killer(s) on cruise ships, preying on people that have had too much to drink...
