VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Beach Police Department and Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating a set of human skeletal remains found in a wooded area Wednesday.

Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said a set of bones was discovered by two people as they were walking in a wooded area in the 4500 block of Bonney Road. The discovery was made around 2:30 p.m.

When police arrived on scene, they found the bones on a vacant lot near a marsh, Moyers said. The bones do look as though they have been in the area for some time.

The Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and an anthropologist as well as a pathologist arrived on scene Wednesday.

The bones were determined to be human Thursday afternoon.

There is a SLEW of people missing from VA Beach. We'll have to wait and see if DNA comes up with anything or what the stats are once FA's get to it.

And FYI Bonney Rd is too far inland to be any kind of ocean casualty.

Kevin Baker

"Kevin Floyd Baker, 30, was reported missing by a friend on Wednesday. A subsequent police investigation found that Baker had not showed up for work all week and had not been seen by neighbors since 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. "

Missing since 2007. Bonney Rd is in VA Beach city.

The zip code he's missing from is near Bonney Rd.

Hope Curry

She's been missing since 2000

"Last seen leaving her brother's residence on Bancroft Road off Rosemont Road in Virginia beach, VA at approximately 9:30 p.m. on November 11, 2000. She said she was going to use a pay phone at a nearby Texaco station. She never returned and has never been heard from again."

Brancroft/Rosemont is only 8 minutes/3 miles from Bonney -- basically straight North and then left onto Bonney.

FYI I live in VA Beach if there is anything I can do for you!

Just keep your eye open for developments in this case -- I'm in Northern VA so I don't see much VAB news. Thanks!!

Check the surrounding towns too of course - Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, etc. Plus some towns in North Carolina. It's a decent-sized area.

Oh def -- once more info becomes available it will help us to narrow down our choices here.

Have any more details surfaced about what gender he/she was? Age? Etc etc?

The directions didnt carry through to the link but Newport News to Bonney Rd is only about 30 minutes.

Also this is right off the Interstate (264 or Virginia Beach Expressway which brings you from I-64 to the waterfront.)

There are a lot of areas of Virginia Beach that are a bit more secluded than others (Back Bay for instance.) That the body was dumped so close to a major road makes me think that the 'dumper' was not that much of a local.

Donald Franklin Pulley is also missing from Virginia Beach. I guess until they release details it will be pure speculation.
