Wonder why they are searching the pond? LE seems to be moving very fast on this.

I thought the same thing. Perhaps they have some concrete info about that pond. I can't find any articles that have any more info than the one CBS article I posted. Everyone's saying the same thing right now, and it isn't much.

Her dad also moved quickly to report her missing which is a good thing. We often hear of kids that go missing, and it's not reported until many hours later.

I'm so cynical these days, I think everything makes me suspicious. Had dad waited hours like so many other parents do, I'd have been suspicious. As it stands, that he only waited 45 minutes to report her missing makes me suspicious! You just can't win with me!

I have to admit the same thought crossed my mind!

It's unclear if they found items belonging to her in the pond or elsewhere, but it's very concerning.

Looks like they were found in the pond

Police in Mint Hill say they found items belonging to a missing teenage girl in a Mint Hill-area pond nearly 24 hours after she was reported missing.

I think it's possible Dad got a bad feeling or something about whatever she was doing until 5:45 and that's why he moved so quickly to report.

As for them searching the pond so fast, I'm hoping she comes home before they can finish that search.

Oh my! I used to live in Matthews, right next door to Mint Hill.

Praying they find her safe and soon.

It's my understanding that they finished the search- found some personal items of Kayla's, but not Kayla herself.

I wonder what prompted them to search the pond in the first place. Its proximity to her home, or were other factors involved?

    According to this

Dive teams found no trace Monday of a missing 16-year-old Mint Hill girl after searching a pond near where the teen’s bicycle, helmet and cell phone had been found earlier
