FL - Becky Marseglia, 16, Orlando, Feb 2005

    Local Teen Missing

    Feb 9, 2005 5:12 pm US/Eastern
PHILADELPHIA (KYW) The search is on for a local teenager who vanished during a trip to Florida.

Becky Marseglia, 16, was last seen Monday as the group she was traveling with prepared to depart Kissimmee. Her parents say she was reprimanded for a minor infraction and ran off crying.

When the Neshaminy High School student failed to return and retrieve her bags, the group became concerned and called police.

CBS 3’s Dick Standish reports someone saw the girl get into a pickup truck with two men.

“Keep an eye out for my daughter,” stated Diane Marseglia, adding, “Bring her back home. Please just let her call home and everything will be okay.”

Her husband flew to Florida upon hearing the news to join in the search.

Marseglia, who is interested in a military career, had traveled to the Kennedy Space Center as part of the Air Patrol.

A $10,000 reward is being offered by the family.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The parents of a missing Bucks County teenager are frantically searching for her.

Becky Marseglia, 16, mysteriously disappeared Monday while on a trip to Orlando, Fla., with her Civil Air Patrol group.

Marseglia's mother said her daughter has never run away and that she had a good relationship with her family.

Investigators in Florida said a chaperone found tobacco rolling papers on Marseglia's hotel room bed.

It is not clear who owns the papers but Marseglia was told she could be expelled from the unit.

Marseglia's friends said she walked away in tears Monday and hasn't been seen since.

"I'm scared that when she took that walk, she fell down and is laying somewhere. Or in the worst case scenario, that I don’t like to think about, someone grabbed her," said Marseglia's mother, Dianne Marseglia.

Becky Marseglia's father is in Orlando helping with the search effort.

The family is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that will help find Becky Marseglia.

Body of missing Bucks girl, 16, found in Florida

The body of a 16-year-old Neshaminy High School student missing since Monday was found today in a wooded area near the hotel in Florida where she was staying, an apparent victim of suicide, family members said.

Becky Marseglia, an honors student, rugby player, and daughter of former Middletown Township Supervisor Diane Marseglia, had been in Kissimmee, Fla., with the Civil Air Patrol for a trip to Walt Disney World.

She was last seen Monday afternoon, just before her group was scheduled to return to Pennsylvania, said her stepmother, Paula Marseglia of Morrisville.

Search teams combing the woods behind the hotel found a girl's body at about 8:30 this morning, said Lt. Andy Lang, spokesman for the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. Some of the clothing found on the body matched the description of the clothing Becky Marseglia was wearing when she disappeared, Lang said.

Lang could not comment on the cause of death, but said there was no indication that it was a homicide.

"Indications are that she took her own life," said Robert McMonagle, a family friend who spoke on behalf of the girl's distraught mother. Becky appeared to be happy and well-adjusted, and gave no indication that she might kill herself, he said.

"In a thousand years, no one ever would have guessed this about Becky Marseglia," said McMonagle. "We're in shock."

It's too bad that no one recognized the seriousness of this young woman's depression.
