“He does suffer from depression and may be in need of his medication,” said Cpl. Maria McKinney, a county police spokeswoman.

Scherr is a dedicated tuba player and officer in the university's Gamer Symphony Orchestra, according to Ryan Largent, a friend and fellow member of the video game music band.

Scherr was not open about his depression, Largent said.

“He seemed pretty happy whenever I saw him, fun and joking,” he said. “There would be times when we wouldn’t see him at practice every so often but when he was at practice, we didn’t notice any kind of depression.”

Friends and family are now working to spread the word as quickly as possible.

"The parents are obviously concerned," county police spokesman Lt. Bill Alexander said.

Scherr takes medicine for depression, and police believe that he does not have access to the drugs because the medication has been found at the student's off-campus residence, Alexander said.

University of Maryland police are assisting Prince George's County police with their investigation, said police spokesman Capt. Marc Limansky.

Praying for Mr. Scherr....I hope he is safe somewhere. Thinking, also, of his family.

PGPD Cpl. Maria McKinney said today that no new information is available and did not respond to whether or not foul play was involved.
