UK - Jordan Cobb, 16, Torpoint, Cornwall, 31 Dec 2012

Jordan Cobb is missing after it is suspected he jumped from a car ferry at 9.15pm last night.

The ferry crosses the Torpoint river from Plymouth in Devon to Torpoint in Cornwall. I used to live in Plymouth, so very close to home for me!

From reading that and seeing the news, I think it's been called off period, not called off for the night.

Unfortunately I strongly believe the young man is deceased.
Whilst being on Websleuths makes me more aware of what evil there is in the world, it also reminds me that the best people are among us as well.

    Love you all!

He'll wash up near Mount Edgecumbe, or Cawsand. Perhaps Whitsand Bay. There's no chance he'll be found alive. I hope the navy boys are keeping their eyes open too - I think they will. Some of them probably know his family.

    RIP, poor Jordan.

Searches are being continued. CCTV has confirmed he jumped and there was no foul play. Just for background; there is a very strong tradition of fancy dress in this part of the world on New Year's Eve. You would stick out if you didn't dress up. People get wild and raucous and groups often take the Torpoint ferry from the Plymouth side, over to the Cornish side, to celebrate. There is also a strong tradition in this area of 'tombstoning', where youngsters dive from great heights into rocky areas of the sea.

On New Year's Day morning, there is also a tradition of running into the freezing cold Atlantic, in fancy dress, for fun. IMO, this is just a tragic, tragic, event. A teenage boy showing off to his friends, on the way to party, on New Year's Eve. Near to shore where the water is shallow, he jumped, carried away by excitement and confident he could make it to the slipway.

He forgot about the wind, the dark, the currents and the chains driving the ferry. They can rip a piece of heavy timber to bits, if it gets caught. He was quite possibly wearing a heavy costume. LE here will have the exact info they need about tides, currents and winds to have a good chance of knowing where his body will be found, although I am a little puzzled why they are searching in Millbrook Creek.

I do think, and hope, that he will not be missing for too long and his loved ones will get their resolution soon. It will not be a happy one, but at least it will be a resolution. No-one can be blamed. All teenagers do crazy things sometimes and most times, they escape unharmed. This young lad went a bit too far and got unlucky. I'm so sad for his loved ones.
ETA: The search areas are not making sense; The Tamar Bridge and Millbrook would have meant the tide going in two directions at once. I'm not an expert on tides though.

These are the guys who will put their lives on the line to find Jordan, and not give up, for no pay.

Here's a little bit of info about why I am so sure there is no hope this boy will be found alive.

The tides and seas around this area really are treacherous, and kids who grow up around them perhaps get too confident. There is a long, long, history of shipwrecks in this area.

I can't say for certain as I can't find the msm links yet, but I think this is not the first death associated with the ferry, and maybe it could look at again at its passenger safety and security? Just one death of such a young boy, is one death too many. If anyone can help out with the link, I believe the previous death was an elderly, female vehicle driver.

His friends were on the local news earlier, they've been helping to search the coastline for Jordan. My heart goes out to them!

One of them did say the group of friends he was with had been having a game of dares over the course of the evening... this is one dare that Jordan really should have said no too

My heart goes out to them, they seemed like such a kind, caring group of kids! They must be heartbroken!

The search is continuing, stronger than ever. There are many, many people searching the coast for this lad. I hope they find him soon.

'Another search ended at nightfall today, will resume Saturday...'

This is not a huge area by US or Aus standards. There's a good chance they'll find him. The shores are rocky, not beaches, which makes it difficult, but everyone who uses them locally is looking. I'm just updating here because I really don't think there is anything else we can do to help -this community is doing everything in it's power to bring Jordan home.

Jordan's young girlfriend has said she will never give up hope. She was in the boat behind when he jumped. So sad, I don't know what to say really.

*Church services have been held for Jordan today.

    http://devonportbaptist.co.uk/articl...er-for-jordan/

A you tube video tribute has been released:

Jordan Cobb, We won't give up on you - YouTube

I cannot find msm links for search activity today but believe it is still ongoing. Here is a press release detailing just some of the organisations which have been working all week to find Jordan within minutes of him going missing.
