............Police in Whittier, Calif., said today that they received information on Sunday about a possible homicide that had occurred in Santa Fe Springs.

“Detectives did some follow-up research and were able to make contact with a man named Juan Alberto Galviz on Sunday evening, and after some more investigation, determined that a homicide had occurred. He was placed under arrest, and we obtained a search warrant,” community relations officer Brad White said today..............little more at link.....

Prosecutors have withheld the victim's name because his family has not been notified.

Ramirez is also charged with special allegation that he personally discharged a shotgun. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Any more info on the bolded part--is this "special allegation" shotgun charge because of a specific law or something? Or is an aggravating factor or is he a felon?

Every article I've found so far has been short with little information. One did say LE thought the two men had been in a feud but no details on that or why the special allegation as yet....I'll keep looking.

The name of the alleged victim was not released Wednesday pending confirmation that his family had been notified, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said. Police described him as a Santa Fe Springs man in his late-30s.

"We have evidence that shows they've known each other for years," Whittier police Lt. Bryan Ellis said. "They've worked together on and off." ............

Guillermo Diaz is the name of the victim in this case.
