FL - Teacher accused of instructing students on bomb-making

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/02/16/tea....ap/index.html

This guy obviously took the name "Freedom High" a bit too seriously.

ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- A high school chemistry teacher was arrested after students claimed he taught his class how to make a bomb, authorities said.

David Pieski, 42, used an overhead projector in class to give instructions in making explosives to students at Freedom High School, including advising them to use an electric detonator to stay clear from the blast, an Orange County sheriff's arrest report said.

In Pieski's classroom in Orlando, authorities found a book labeled "Demo," which includes the chemical breakdown for a powerful explosive, the arrest report said.

One student said he set off a small bomb at a golf course on January 6 and videotaped it, an arrest warrant said. The videotape shows an explosion, and the voice of a young man can be heard shouting, authorities said.

I bet that class held the kid's interest. I am less concerned about the kids- lets face it, they can get that info anywhere if they are so inclined- than I am about why this teacher became so interested in bomb making.
Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

Yeah, I think if one of my high school teachers taught me this stuff, I would have loved science class!

But it makes this guy sound like he has a really sick obsession. We seem to be in a wave of "bad teacher" stories these days, huh?

We learned how to make bombs too! Not really powerful ones, but we did make some big booms. I LOVED that class! I do agree, however, that society has changed and kids don't need this kind of instruction.....they get it from the internet anyway.

My 20 year old son got on the internet in 1992 and downloaded some instructions on making a bomb....behind my back, of course. It used the kind of chlorine that you put in a swimming pool and maybe some gunpowder. He went to sleep over at my sister's house and she called me, so hysterical that it took a while to understand what she was trying to tell me. John and her son had made a bomb...a pipe bomb...and detonated it out in the cow pasture. It left a huge depression in the ground and spread shrapnel everywhere. They were lucky not to have killed themselves. And I was lucky to have learned to supervise my kid's online useage without losing him.

edited....John says it was 1994. That would've made him 10 when he pulled this stunt.

I guess I'm in the minority here, I think the teacher was out of line. Chemistry class teaches chemistry... not bomb making. With all that's going on in society today suicide bombers, buildings being blown up, pipe bombs being put in mailboxes etc. I would think this teacher would realize teaching bomb making to a group of impressionable adolescents was not a wise choice. There seems to be alot of unstable kids out there and it would just take one to take this teachers experiment a little further then the teacher had intended and destroy alot of lifes. Teachers need to be more responsible...they are dealing with our future..they should enrich their minds not fill them with garbage.

Methinks this is probably much ado about nothing but chemistry.
