    PA - Jeremy Walker, 29, Ohiopyle, 2 January 2013

Somerset County Man Remains Missing After New Year's Hike:

On New Years Eve, Jeremy Walker, 29, of Somerset told family members he planned to hike at Ohiopyle State Park on the Youghiogheny River Trail. He was seen January 1 wearing boots & winter outerwear at the High Bridge, a former railroad bridge that now carries the trail 100 feet above the river near Ohiopyle.

On Jan 2, Mr. Walker was reported missing. His vehicle was located in a parking lot at Train Station, a trail rest stop less than 1/2 mile from High Bridge. The winter clothing he was wearing was found inside his vehicle.

PA State police have his computer & the family has provided some of his possessions.

After days of exhaustive land searches, they've mostly ruled out that Jeremy is anywhere within 0.7 miles of his vehicle. There's no evidence at his home or in the park that he was a victim of a crime.

Search and rescue teams continue to scour land and water at Ohiopyle State Park for Jeremy Walker, 29, of Somerset, who was reported missing Wednesday

69 searchers, including dog teams, water and swift-water rescue squads made their way around the 20,500-acre park in Fayette County, said Stacie Hall, assistant Ohiopyle park manager.

No possibilities about his whereabouts, including the chance that he left the park with someone, have been ruled out, Hall said.

On Saturday, searchers deployed underwater cameras from boats in the Youghiogheny River while ground crews walked and used dogs and all-terrain vehicles to search the parks rugged terrain, she said.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers aided by lowering the depth of the river by reducing the amount of water released from the Youghiogheny River Dam in Confluence.

    According to http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...s-hike-669732/

Dec 31 tells family he's going hiking
    Jan 1 seen
wearing boots and winter outerwear at the High Bridge
    at Ohiopyle
Jan 2 car found; the winter clothes he was wearing were inside (according to his brother, he also left his cellphone in the car)

There's snow in the area which presumably shows them only he's been around the car? The dogs could only track him to the bridge. The family have asked for privacy and said nothing beyond issuing a statement thanking searchers.

All of which suggests suicide to me.. except why would he return to his car after his walk, remove his outerwear and leave it along with the phone in the car? Part of me thinks if he was doing that, he'd leave a note or something, although I know suicide just isn't that rational. Because the snow on the bridge is undisturbed, they don't think he jumped. The dogs say he only went to the bridge; surely in that case he could be tracked if he'd walked elsewhere?

Day 6 of search. Officials have exhausted their search on land and are focusing on the Yough River. Has been missing since NY Eve. Car parked at Visitor's Center. 100 volunteers, friends, & family members scoured woods searched within a 50 mile radius.

Their focus now is strictly on the river. They have used underwater cameras and dogs in boats along the river. This is still being considered a Search and Rescue operation.

He may have simply walked away.

if the family could create a missing FB for him, and then send a link to everyone on his friends list, it might increase awareness...some may not even know he is missing...maybe someone that knows him can post on his FB so people can see he is missing there also??

I wonder if he pulled off the heavy gear &left it,and went with someone he met there, anticipating returning later for his car?

A body found in Ohiopyle State Park Saturday has been tentatively identified as Jeremy Walker, 29, Somerset.

"They believe tentatively that it was Jeremy Walker," said Allegheny County forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht.

He said no positive identification has been made yet.
